Woven in Time: Sept. 11 Memorial Quilts on Display at Arlington Women's Memorial By Casie Vinall, Special to American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, July 23, 2003 - Many Americans from around the country have responded to the events of Sept. 11 with support for those who lost loved ones in the attack. For some, this support has come in the form of needle and thread.
About one hundred quilts made in support of the victims now line the walls of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery in Northern Virginia. A sign at the entrance of the exhibit reads: "Inspired by the events of September 11, 2001, the Pentagon quilts came from freedom-loving people in small towns and big cities across the country and around the world. They are and will remain symbols of patriotism, comfort and encouragement to the Pentagon Community forevermore."
One quilt, entitled "Lest We Forget," at the start of the display has a label describing those who made it -- the Peace Makers Quilt Guild of Brandon, Fla. Guild members are wives of retired service members and Defense Department civilians out of Tampa, Fla.

We did a profile on Firebrand last year not long after we started the daily threads if you'd like to read about her, Cal. :)
Firebrand (It's also interesting to see how the opening posts have grown so much longer and more elaborate than they were in the early days and months of the Finest) :)

LOL! Right! I don't associate 'quiet quilts' with our Freezie!
That was so nice of you to give up the name to that other woman, Free. :)

I pop around every now and then. Contributed to the lighthouse thread most recently.
To: Calpernia
Hey, great! You're coming, then!
To: The Thin Man
I've always tried to be nice.Keep trying.... and you try quilting also. ;)
To: Billie
It's not the first time I've given up a quilt website name. I once owned quiltstore.com -- great name, huh? It was still available because I came to the net earlier than most.
Then a got a call from a charming Texas lady in Austin who was retired and ran a little store called The Quilt Store and she wanted the name for her business.
Quilters being quilters, I didn't have the heart to charge a fellow quilter for the name to use in her retirement business. Check out her site, www.quiltstore.com -- it's just a lovely little texas quiltstore.
I now own quiltpage.com, which I HOPE if someone asks me to give to them I will PLEASE GOD have the courage to say "no, this name I'm keeping!"

Thanks for the hug fuzzy brothah - It is always so much appreciated! As are *yours*. : )

Wolves don't work....ditch the job! LOL
To: dansangel
LOL, before you get too excited, Billie forgot to mention that the size of my collages were ALL WRONG (I basically need software to tell me the size in more detail and I'm ordering that) and had to be redone.
To: The Thin Man
Correction...and you could try quilting also. ;)

To: GailA
And Gail I admire the closeup of a part of your flying geese quilt -- those are perfect points there. Well-crafted!
To: ST.LOUIE1
And I just know you're going to be telling me how many men DO quilt. LOL
Well, I could tell you that while I've never known a wolf to quilt, I am sure there are many Native American textile traditions that involve textiles and wolves, and not all of them involving wolf fur.
To: Dubya
Aw, thanks. That's a great post. The 9/11 quilts are very important.
To: firebrand; Calpernia
Firebrand, if Calpernia shows *half* the cheerful enthusiasm she's graced our thread with, you're in for a treat!

I have to admit, you're a lot of fun.
