He's going to have to campaign his backside off (especially west of the Cascades)...but otherwise, I'm glad we got a decent candidate.

You will not elect a moderate (much less a conservative) in a state-wide election in Washington for 20 years.
The Looney Left runs the state. Get over it.

Let's hope that Nethercutt can duplicate his stunning success in 1994 when he defeated House Speaker Tom Foley.

I love Neithercutt to death, I campaigned for him in the Washington State University College Republicans in 2000. He's got an uphill race, but more power to him if he can pull it off. He's the best candidate we have other then Dunn, who obviously is looking at house leadership. He'll have my full support, I just love the guy.

Let's hope the voters in this state don't forget the Gorton/Cantwell lesson...just say no to libertarians.

For such an authoritative-sounding statement, you're on pretty shaky ground. In 2000, Gore beat Bush in Washington by only 5%- a mere 140,000 votes. Murray's highly controverisal remarks regarding Osama Bin Laden's humanitarian accomplishments will haunt her. If Nethercutt listens to his campaign managers (and that's a big "if") and runs an effective campaign that steers clear of divisive political issues while touting national security and the economic resilience of the nation which will be evident by 2004, it'll be a race worth following.

George Nethercutt's broken term limits pledge will come back to haunt him. That alone limits his aspirations for higher office even if his constituents appear to have forgiven him.

He can win . . . nice to see we found a gubernatorial candidate, too, esp. one not named Vance.

Unfortunately, he won't carry any one of the five counties needed to win the election. Gorton took 34 of 39 counties in 2000 and still lost to C*ntwell.

I'll take bets.
In my Seattle neighborhood, there were more pro-Iraq bumper stickers than American flags. This is not your common state anymore; it is a breeding ground of serious anti-American leftism. In Washington, a moderate is someone who doesn't believe in post partum abortion.
Authoritative as hell. I grew up there, lived there 40 years, and left with a really bad taste in my mouth. Those suckers can rot.

The only Republican in a state-wide office right now is the Secretary of State who opposes tax cuts.
There's a winner for you.

That's great. And I heard similar gloom 'n doom about a Republican ever winning statewide in Maryland. I had my doubts as well. But it happened.
