A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 7/28/03

Today, President Bush went to Pittsburgh to make remarks at the National Urban League conference, a group that represents black Americans. He said the U.S. economy is showing fresh signs of improvement. He urged Congress to approve languishing legislation to help low-income Americans and those having a hard time finding work.
Then later he greeted Ben Curtis, winner of the 2003 British Open, in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington. Curtis outlasted Tiger Woods and other champion golfers to win the tourney earlier this month.
Also today, President Bush signed the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act. The legislation is supposed to send a message to the regime of Burma that the regime's continued detention of Aung San Suu Kyi and continued oppression of its people is unacceptable and cannot be allowed to stand.

Isn't that the truth? All the good ones are gone or seem to be. He was one of the best. He has been around all my life and will be missed by millions.

I'm relatively new to this web site. May I tell you how very much I'm enjoying it. The efforts you people put into this is amazing and you should be applauded. Earlier today I read where someone said that this site is addicting. You can say that again! I'm here at least 5-6 times a day. Thank you all. I think masterful efforts deserve praise. I think I'll stick around.

Only 5-6 times a day. You're still not really addicted. 8-)
You should have seen the war coverage 3 months ago. I was turned in 12-14 a day here rather than watch the TV news.

Excerpt:
Quagmire?
America has already won in Iraq.
BY F.J. BING WEST
Sunday, July 27, 2003 12:01 a.m. EDT
In the doldrums of summer, a gun battle that erased the sons of Saddam has perked up the news. Uday and Qusay were the pillars of Saddam's brutal regime, and perhaps the most feared of all its members. This intelligence and military success will surely infuse some balance into the saturnine reporting from Baghdad. The raid that led to their richly merited deaths demonstrated the unremitting pressure that is squeezing the remnants of Saddam Hussein's regime. So will the naysayers at last concede that we are doing something--anything--right?
2.)
Bush isn't Clinton
Excerpt:
There's another benefit upon which hardly anyone has remarked: the deterrent effect. Based on years of experience, Saddam Hussein made the mistake of thinking America was "soft," that fear of casualties or of antiwar sentiment would restrain us from fighting. The Washington Times carries a delightful quote from an erstwhile confidante of Uday, who says he last saw Saddam's lunatic son in early April, when
Uday was "depressed": "His final words to me were: 'This time I think the Americans are serious. Bush is not like Clinton. I think this is the end.' "
Uday, it seems, got the message, albeit too late: America doesn't mess around. The graphic evidence of Uday and his brother's fate reinforces that understanding, and surely this will serve to concentrate the minds of other rulers who might be inclined to make an enemy of America. Seeing what happened to Saddam and his family can't help but induce other dictators to solve their differences with the U.S. peacefully.
3.)
Carl Rove
Rove described President Bush as "a remarkable individual." He continued his praise, saying, "History will record that he was the right man at the right place at the right time."
In speaking about the Democrats, Rove described their philosophy by saying, "If it feels good, do it. If it doesn't, sue somebody."
Rove contrasted that with the Republican principle of "personal responsibility." He described compassionate conservatism as helping people move from "dependency [on government] to all they can be in life."
Outgoing College Republican Chairman Scott Stewart said, "2002 was the most successful year in College Republican history."
Stewart said he is looking forward to his successor leading the organization and "working to re-elect President Bush and Republican candidates at all levels."

I have a special request for prayers this evening. This is actually GOOD news, but needs some heavenly help.
My son has been fighting cancer for ten years. Today he was told that if the next test is as good as the last one, he won't need any more treatments. Actually, the kind of cancer he has will always recur, but this would be a great blessing if he doesn't need more treatments for some time to come.
He was originally told that he had only two years to live, but with the incredible help of the doctors at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, prayers, and his indomitable desire to beat the disease, he's still with us.

Great news! What is your son's first name? It's easier for me to pray when I can personalize it.
Anyone have news on Emily? who had been in a coma from a bike accident? Or Maddie, infant daughter of serviceman in Iraq, burned critically in a housefire? Last I heard Lani was struggling under sedation through the first week post bone marrow transplant.

Always pleased to offer up prayers when asked. May God be glorified.

RIP Bob Hope, a great American who cared more for our troops his entire life than the hundreds of democrats in office at this time combined! He was someone who loved his country and those who serve it, and never took for granted his freedom that our military personnel sacrificed so much for. We were blessed to have had him for 100 years, and there will never be another to take his place. God Bless his family! Amen!!! I've felt very sad today, but I'm telling myself to snap out of it: Bob had a wonderful, joyous, long life . He had a wonderful, loving family and it was time for him to go home to Our Heavently Father. There are smiles and laughter in heaven tonight, and this, together with the laughter he brought to us for so many years, is something we need to raise a glass to, and say, "Dear Bob, Thanks for the Memories, and may the angels lead you into Paradise".
