One radical response to bolting is this:
1) Call special session of Senate.
2) Dems bolt
3) TX House IMPEACHES some of bolting Dems
4) Upon such impeachment, those Dems are automatically suspended from their Senate seats, and the Gov. may appoint provisional replacement Senators. (TX Const., Art. 15, sec. 5.)
What say?

Not yet(if that is even really possible), it would be portrayed, and be perceived by far too many, as a political coup. This isn't yet to a crisis stage in the public mindset, and I'm not sure redisctricting alone would be a big enough issue for the public to get fed up just yet. Now if there are a couple more attempts to call an SS that are stillborn due to Democrat hooky, and say the school finance SS is impacted, then public opinion may be swayed enough to allow for such drastic action, but it is going to have to be perceived as a governing crisis.
This is an early to middle act in a long, slow-moving play. No need to rush for the nuclear option yet. Someone made the analogy of Perry and Dewhurst slowly cooking a frog, and I think that may be the best way to portray this, or perhaps a chess game.

Don't you suppose that the House Democrats would then flee all over again to bust quorum on the impeachment motions?

Under what authority would the House impeach a state Senator? Even if they could it takes 2/3rds of the Senate to convict.....
4) Upon such impeachment, those Dems are automatically suspended from their Senate seats, and the Gov. may appoint provisional replacement Senators. (TX Const., Art. 15, sec. 5.)
This Article isn't referring to Senators.... only the following:
Impeachment of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Commissioner of the General Land Office, Comptroller and the Judges of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and District Court shall be tried by the Senate. (Amended Nov. 7, 1995.)
