Hope I did this correctly. It's the first time I've posted an article.

Good post. Hutchens has always been a Chomsky-loving leftist, but 9-11 seems to have sobered him, at least on issues of national security. His previous epiphany was to perceive early on that Bill Clinton a low-life.

Because this does not seem to resemble any truth that the media is reporting out of Iraq, I sounds pretty plausible to me.

I just don't get it! It the misrepresentation of what is going on in Iraq post war a result of bias or of the traditional 'we only report the bad new' press. The American public is not being well served in either case.

He was a Troskyite and a lefty but I can't see Hitchens and Chomsky being soul brothers.

Excellent post! It makes me wish the jounralists would become more transparent and less biased so we could really see what it's like over there. They need to "cleanse their doors of perception, man."
PS - I didn't follow Hitchens much until after 9-11, but his columns make a lot of sense and are candid and well-reasoned.
To: tsmith130
I expect Hitchens to finally one day just realize and admit, like Dennis Miller, that the left really is full of sh*t on virtually every issue, and the truth lies on the conservative side. He's making the same journey as many before him, he'll get there soon.
Why? Because, like Miller, he's too smart not to see it.

It is a little ironic that
free Americans can't get the truth from our own media. And regretfully, the men and women in our military who are over there are not getting the kudos they deserve because it's all doom and gloom.
I am going to pass this along to all my friends, family and acquaintances. Thanks for posting this.

Perhaps it will go like the taking of Baghdad.
The news services continually report how bad things are going and then suddenly its over.
And then the press back peddles and reevaluates itself on how it got it so wrong
Well see

When Hitchens left The Nation, his parting article said just that - that the Left was full of $hit on every issue that matters, and that he was going to devote his time to exposing them. He's truly become conservative.

I'm actually seeing the tide turn, albiet slowly, in other press reports.
This one's very credible, since at the end of his book he was quite a bit more cynical. Things are obviously improving dramatically in Iraq.
I'm sorry he was cut off so soon; I think he was just starting to relate the good news.
If you haven't read it already, Mark Steyn has a similar account.

Rush actually talked about Hitchins on his show Friday and mentioned that it astounded him that this Commie lover would actually say what we have been getting a trickle of when it leaks out. The press is actively trying to subject the public (us) to their leftwing socialist bias and can't stand anything positive about the war because it makes President Bush look good. If there is anything subversive about this country, could it possibly be the PRESS WHICH IS THE RIGHT ARM OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY???? Have you noticed that NOT ONE Democrat has said anything good about the second most astounding week of the war on Terrorism///the find and killing of those two monsters!!!

Pretty impressive first post, my friend. Welcome to FR!
These are people with nothing to lose, they are the absolute scum of the earth and they're paid from the stolen money from the central bank of Baghdad.
That one sentence is worth two hours of CNN blather, and contains about 120 minutes' worth more of the truth. Hitchens is actually in a pretty nice position - the entire left is one giant, pompous, pretentious, pumped-up balloon and he is in possession of the needle of intellect and articulation. He's going to have some fun before this is over.
