A spokesman for President Bush said today that the president would not get involved in California's recall election.

McClellan's statement suggested Bush would not campaign to unseat Davis.

Davis became the first California governor in history to face a recall after more than 1.3 million voters endorsed a Republican-led attempt to oust the unpopular Democrat.

I heard one of Issa's first radio campaign commercials . . . "rock on". You'd have to be an emotionally retarded democRAT not to see that "Squat" Davis is an absolute incompetant and corrupt govenor. I got selected today to serve on a jury . . . first thing the judge told us is "don't expect to get compensated".

``This is a matter that is still up to the people of California and not something we're involved in,''

Good idea!

In the 2002 gubernatorial election, Bush threw his support behind Republican investment banker Bill Simon.

Am I misremembering? Didn't Bush throw his support so far behind Simon that it was scored as a fielding error?

Good, glad to see Simon running!

The middle of the road Democrats need choices!

Need several candidates so that Davis can't focus his negative attack on just a few of our choices!!!

Remember the goal is to take out Davis any way we can!!!!

Could you just see a Simon commercial, him saying "I told you so," his finger pointing at a series of scrolling headlines - "deficit hire than Davis claimed; 38 billion dollar deficit-services have to be cut, etc."

Originally, I was hoping only 2 or 3 bIggies on the Repub side should run, as I agree about not giving Davi$ just 1 candidate for him to sully and attack relentlessly. Issa has already been barraged and savaged pretty well. He's a keeper, and now Simon, and McClintock, maybe Rairdon will be there too. That's about right.

The main thing is to get the 50% + 1 vote to Dump Davi$ ;-)

President Bush and the First Lady both made trips as well as some of the administration, but who knows? Simon could have used maybe one or two visits late in the election and maybe that would have put him over the top.

Now, it's a real mess, best to sit it out. They better tell Parsky that as well. ;-)

Bush mildly congratulated Simon for a few weeks, and then dropped him like a hot potato, presumably on Karl Rove's advice. Too bad, because with a little help Simon would have won. But the Big Ten Republicans would rather lose to Gray Davis than support a real pro-lifer.

Stupid, because the pro-lifers won every race in 2002, and not one candidate funded by NARAL was elected. Karl Rove is smart, but he's very dumb on the life issue.

Has the liberal media ever mentioned the Democrat-led mess California is in?

The San Jose Merc has gone mad in its assault on the recall. An article yesterday in the local section featured four photographs: 3 were articulate in opposition, 1 was wishy-washy kind of for it. The article included 12 quotes- 10 were anti-recall, 2 were pro-recall. They are trying to give Californians the impression that the recall is an expensive waste of time, a GOP hijacking, etc. As usual I'll do my part in writing journalists to keep it evenhanded, but we're going to need some serious luck to ward off the drunk-with-power liberal media.

I wouldn't worry. The media helped Davis cover up his mess and has little credibility with Californians. Its now all in the open. The Democrats are just going to have to put someone else if they want to keep the Governor's office.

Bush would be a fool to get involved. There is no upside for him in this, and tons of downside.

Plus, it likely would make things worse for just about everyone.
