Six hurt when car plows through Flagler farmers' market

FLAGLER BEACH -- A car driven by a 79-year-old Palm Coast man smashed through the city’s farmers’ market early today, injuring six people — one seriously, authorities said.

The victims’ names were not immediately available. Flagler Beach Fire Chief Jon Macdonald said the most seriously injured person, a juvenile girl whose leg was run over, was flown to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

Flagler Beach police officer Frank Parrish said that the driver, Louis Nirenstein, was allowed to park inside the market because he uses a wheelchair. When he started his car shortly after 10 a.m., it fully accelerated in reverse.

Parrish said Nirenstein slammed the car into drive, plowing through the market’s southside walkway and hitting three cars before coming to rest in a fruit stand.

Parrish said charges were pending

The solution is obvious... ban all farmer's markets.

Are we to be notified every time a car knocks over a veggie stand?

We need a three-day waiting period between the puchase of a car and its delivery. Also, we need to eliminate the "car show" loophole. And people should not be allowed to buy more than one car every month.

Only if they hurt the tomatoes. No one cares about broccolli since 1991.

Old folks need to be tested when it comes to driving. The arguments the AARP and their lackeys put forth and just as disgusting as some of the crash scenes. Oh you stormed the beaches at Normandy? Good for you. Now what relevence does that have to a husband and wife who just saw one of your AARP friends run down their 3rd grade daughter?

If they allowed septuagenarians and octogenarians easy access to dodgem car rides at fairgrounds they wouldn't have to take out their aggression at farmers' markets.
