I'm sure one of you all will know the answer to this - why does one of them look like he has blue mascera on? I assume that is bruising but can the blueing occur post-mortum. I would really hate to think that sonny boy had a little head trauma before death.

If that he was shot in the head, the blood will start to pool in that thin area around the eyes...sort of like when you break your nose...

Some bruising can happen post mortem but not much, the blood stops flowing so it can't get to the effected area to make a bruise (good ME's can spot areas that would have bruised if the person had been alive). Blueing around the eyes is pretty common though, from memory I recall it in at least 1/3 of the shots I've seen thumbing through my wife's books. I'd heard one of them took the gun in the mouth way out, could be that... bits... went into the eye cavity.

Speaking of color around the eyes ... after 9/11, the photos of Atta and others had obvious eye shadow-type darkness around the eyes. Someone in the reports said that some of the Arabs did this ... I forget what the reasoning was, but you brought it to mind with your comment about the bluing around the eyes.
