[history]
California's Republican voters want former Secretary of State Bill Jones as their candidate in a race against U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, the San Francisco Democrat who's up for election next year, according to a recent Field Poll.
Among likely GOP voters, 35 percent prefer Jones; 23 percent want Mary Bono, a Republican congresswoman from Palm Springs; 6 percent back former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin; and 2 percent support Toni Casey, the former mayor of Los Altos Hills.

I'm in favor of Tony Strickland myself.
I'm still not sure I've forgiven Bill Jones for supporting McCain in 2000 (after pledging to support Bush), or for spearheading the GOP push to raise taxes while he was in the Assembly.

I'd vote for Jones, although I still think it might be best to run a minority female against Boxer.
To: Canticle_of_Deborah
When that minority female is also a RINO?

I heard Tony on one of the local talk shows the other day. He sounded pretty good to me. I would sure be inclined to give him a real good look for a Senator seat.
You will note that none of the potential current GOP or RINO Gub recall candidates or wannabees were included in the poll results. Hmmm? Oh, well.

I was speaking more in general. I don't know much about Marin if that's who you're talking about but I do think it would be good to run a woman against Boxer. No, I don't have any particular candidate in mind. I'm open. Any RINO depends on their level of RINOness.

He'd be great! No kidding!!!

Are those the only ones considering running
for Senate next year? Hard to believe that.
Doesn't look any real conservative is in the race.
Or is maybe this a rigged poll?
To: Princeliberty
I think your last question is closest to the real truth. There are many others as qualified that not are notmentioned.

Man or woman, the candiate won't get any support from the party unless they are a RINO. Pretty soon nonRINOs will get the message.
To: NormsRevenge
The people in the poll are either semi-declared candidates (Casey and Marin), or people long rumored to be running in 2004 (Bono, to an extent Jones).
They just picked the candidates most likely to actually run.
This isn't a "Draft so-and-so" push-poll.

More importantly, has the Bush team forgiven Jones? Last time it almost gave us Riordan, and ended up giving us Simon and yada, yada, yada you know the rest. Will history repeat itself for the senate race?
