Notice how most of these stories wrap with "xxx US deaths since President Bush declared major combat over" or something like that? A sly way to make him take the blame.

Sympathies and prayers to the family of the soldier who gave his life!

Same story this was posted this morning (Tuesday) BEFORE Qusay and Uday were captured

One U.S. soldier killed in ambush north of Baghdad

July 22, 2003 | BAGHDAD, Iraq - A U.S. soldier was killed and another wounded Tuesday in an ambush along a dangerous road north of Baghdad in the ``Sunni Triangle,'' the U.S. military reported.

The soldier's death brought to 153 the number of U.S. troops killed in action since the March 20 start of war - six more than during the 1991 Gulf War.

The Central Command in Tampa, Fla., said the attackers used rocket-propelled grenades and small arms in the assault staged along the road between Balad, 50 miles north of Baghdad, and Ramadi, 60 miles west of the capital.

Both towns lie within the ``Sunni Triangle,'' so named because it is home to much of the remaining support for ousted dictator Saddam Hussein, a Sunni Muslim who used his Baathist Party to oppress the country's Shiite Muslim majority.

The military had no other details on the attack, many of which lately have been staged with remote-controlled roadside explosions.

U.S. Soldier Killed in Attack West of Baghdad

Wed July 23, 2003 04:04 AM ET

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - One U.S. soldier was killed and two were wounded near the restive town of Ramadi west of Baghdad Wednesday when their convoy was attacked with an improvised explosive, a U.S. military spokesman said.

The attack, which followed news that Saddam Hussein's sons Uday and Qusay were killed in a gunbattle in northern Iraq on Tuesday, brought to 40 the number of American soldiers killed in Iraq since President Bush declared major combat over on May 1.

The U.S. spokesman said the soldiers were from the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Ramadi is in the "Sunni triangle" to the north and west of Baghdad where many of the guerrilla attacks on U.S. troops have been concentrated.

Lieutenant-General Ricardo Sanchez, commander of ground forces in Iraq, said Tuesday the killings of Uday, 39, and Qusay, two years younger, would deal a blow to guerrillas who have staged the attacks and ambushes on U.S. forces in Iraq.

But Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator of Iraq, said there was a risk of revenge attacks by Saddam loyalists.

Two U.S. Soldiers Killed in Attacks
Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two U.S. soldiers were killed in separate attacks on convoys, the military said Wednesday, including one on the outskirts of the northern city of Mosul, where the sons of Saddam Hussein were killed in a firefight the day before.

Spc. Brian Sharkey said the attack near Mosul happened as a military convoy was traveling near the town. He said one of the vehicles was destroyed by a roadside bomb.

An Associated Press reporter in Mosul, 260 miles north of Baghdad, heard a large boom shortly before noon (5 a.m. EDT).

Six soldiers were wounded in the attack, but the name of their unit wasn't immediately available.

Another convoy was attacked in Ramadi, 60 miles west of the capital, Baghdad, killing one soldier and wounding two more.

Witnesses told Associated Press Television News the attack happened at 10:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. EDT) Tuesday and several Iraqi bystanders were injured.

The nature of the attack was unclear.

The attacks brought to 155 the number of American soldiers killed in action since the beginning of the war in Iraq, eight more than died in the 1991 Gulf War.

Odai and Qusai Hussein were killed Tuesday in a fierce gun battle with U.S. forces in a villa in Mosul.

My prayers go out to all the military families

As they should. At the same time the daily average of deaths in the states due to murder is about 50 and about 120 people die in car accidents. Consider the heart felt sympathy which isn't expressed in the front page daily media for these individuals. People die in wars and in this case death has been held to a minimum, not only for Americans, but for Iraqis. Why is that difficult to understand?

It not hard, but some of us are personally connected to the soldiers. This morning in particular as the lastest attack on the 101st in which 3 soldiers died is in the same city my son is in. The next 48 hours are going to be hard for many of us.

I was very much saddened to learn that Josh Byers was the subject of this report. I attended church with Josh and his family when they were stationed here. Please take a moment to lift up his wife Kim and the rest of the family in your prayers.
