Deaths of Saddam's sons 'great day for Iraq'-Blair
HONG KONG, July 23 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Wednesday that the death of Saddam Hussein's sons Uday and Qusay in a fierce gunbattle with U.S. forces marked a "great day for the new Iraq."
"These two particular people were at the head of a regime that wasn't just a threat because of its weapons programme, but was also responsible for the torture and killing of thousands and thousands of innocent Iraqis," Blair told reporters during a visit to Hong Kong.
The deaths of Saddam's sons is a fillip for Blair and U.S. President George W. Bush if it weakens armed resistance in Iraq and deflects attention from controversy over whether they exaggerated claims that Baghdad was developing weapons of mass destruction, analysts said.
