Simon- Sec. of State has validated 900k+ Signatures, Recall a go (Dump Davis)
Hugh Hewitt Show ^ | 7/22/3

Posted on 07/22/2003 5:13:13 PM PDT by socal_parrot

Bill Simon just announced on the Hugh Hewitt show that the Secretary of State's office have contacted his people and told them that over 900,000 signatures have been validated. This would mean that if the Sec. of State announces the certification tomorrow, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante would have 15 days to announce the special election which would be held 60-80 days after that. Candidates could have as little a 24 hours to get their paperwork in once the election date is set.

Here we go.

Sorry if I offended you. You were a mere conduit to my little polemic. Perhaps I should have addressed it to "all." I actually enjoy your posts, and think you are a responsible poster, and a credit to this forum. Again, my apologies.

LOL.. Oh sure,, Play kissy kissy now, eh? ;-P

I echo Carry's sentiments on Simon for AG in 2006 or even a run for the Senate. Hopefully, by that time, the turds in the legislature and the RINO leadership of the CAGOP will be flushed far out to sea.

Among the realistic possibilities:

First choice: McClintock.
Second choice: Issa.

Well part of it, is that I know a bit more about the man from being in the legal community (he is NOT "sweet"). But that is not the main reason I dislike him. I stand by my post. Granted, it is just my opinion, as all judgments are about personalities. Normally, I stick to issues, but clearly not always. Regards.

Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante claims that under the state constitution he automatically becomes governor the moment Davis is recalled.

According to the California Constitution, at the same moment that the results of a Governor's recall election are announced after it is certified, the name of the candidate that the voters have selected to replace the recalled Governor is also announced. So there won't be a vacancy for Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante to step in and fill. Of course, the Democrats could still challenge the recall laws and election in court, but it'll probably be a waste of time for them to do so.

I dislike Issa more than Simon. :) No, I don't hate everyone. I like McClintock. If he runs, I will match your campaign check to him.

Spin.

You suggested he had an option that he was likely to exercise and I supposedly hadn't considered, "You won't like it."

Not only had I considered the possibility, I responded that I had already queried those I knew in the State crapitol on the possibility and that they had already told me, "No way."

Well, I never believed Davis would quit unless he thought he was toast. I will leave it at that.

I'm afraid I'm a Vermonter, so the bumper sticker wouldn't help much. But I'm concerned about California because it's still the tail that wags the national dog.

I'm a great admirer of Simon, as I was of his father.

Well, I never believed Davis would quit unless he thought he was toast.

And that's the error. Davis has such an inflated ego that even when the state was in the midst of the power crisis, he believed himself a viable presidential candidate. Even if the cable and the manicles were brought through the door with that D10 rumbling outside, he'd think it was a Republican conspiracy.

The man is a paranoid lunatic, and I mean that seriously. He is truly unstable. If the Slave Party aparatchiks think they can get away with using Voz de Aztlan to stir up Latino riots over Bustamentalcase not succeeding Davis as LG, they'd call an emergency and cancel the election.

That's what we're dealing with. That's the party you voted for.

Blaming this on Parsky is yet another indication of Bill Simon's inability to succeed and willingness to put the blame anywhere but where it belonged- on himself.

Well, no. Parsky was a strong Riordan supporter, as was Karl Rove. When Riordan was repudiated by the voters in the Republican primary, Parsky started to badmouth Simon, and he never really stopped. Moreover Parsky was in charge of in-state fundraising, which was absolutely dismal. Parsky constantly allowed himself to be quoted by the liberal press with statements saying that Simon was a bad campaigner. Finally, a number of big Republican donors, angry that Riordan lost the primary, donated to Gray Davis instead. It simply isn't true that a liberal loser like Riordan is the kind of candidate who is needed to win in California. The Country Clubbers and pro-aborts loved him, but the rank and file would never vote for him.

Can't really do much about that. In fairness, so did lots of other people, like Lyn Nofziger and Debra Saunders.

Moreover Parsky was in charge of in-state fundraising, which was absolutely dismal.

Simon's campaign should have been responsible for its own fundraising. Also, last I checked, the state GOP was in debt by about $500,000, so it's not exactly a Parsky plot to hose Simon, just a general lack of fundraising.

Parsky constantly allowed himself to be quoted by the liberal press with statements saying that Simon was a bad campaigner.

It isn't slander if it's true.

I loathe Parsky for taking over the state party machinery and cutting the chairmanship's power off at the knees, but complaints against him work better when you're at least fair to him.

If the party was so far in debt, then what the heck good is Parsky doing anyway?

Debra Saunders is the "conservative" columnist from the SF Chronicle. LOL .. She is a lib thru and thru impersonating a conservative.

Nofziger, just curious, when was the last time he was on a winning team?

Just saying that there were a whole host of "Republicans" who could be expected to rip on the nominee.

Then again, Simon did such a good job of making himself a laughingstock that the media didn't really need to look very hard to find Republicans mad at him.

Riordan became less loved when he proved himself incompetent, in the early stages of senile dementia (I'm serious), and a hopeless touchie feelie economic liberal (some of that might have been a reflection of the dementia thingie), who mouthed off at one point that everybody deserved a living wage, and the minimum wage should be 15 dollars per hour or something. The guy was totally confused and clueless. He would also have been lunchmeat for the Dem legislature, and would have signed much legislation that Davis vetoed. I would have voted for Davis over Riordan as well. Riordan had the unique capacity to really gut the GOP for a considerable period, but that is just for starters. Issa + Simon + Riordan = The Terrible Trio of Politics.
