Simon- Sec. of State has validated 900k+ Signatures, Recall a go (Dump Davis)
Hugh Hewitt Show ^ | 7/22/3

Posted on 07/22/2003 5:13:13 PM PDT by socal_parrot

Bill Simon just announced on the Hugh Hewitt show that the Secretary of State's office have contacted his people and told them that over 900,000 signatures have been validated. This would mean that if the Sec. of State announces the certification tomorrow, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante would have 15 days to announce the special election which would be held 60-80 days after that. Candidates could have as little a 24 hours to get their paperwork in once the election date is set.

Here we go.

...and I now have it on good authority that the above is true. The Secretary of State's office has been calling potential candidates and telling them there are more than 900,000 verified sigs.

If you vote NO against tossing the Doofus, you are not then allowed to vote for a replacement as well... or if you do , it will not count anyway.

That's not true. Regardless of your vote on the recall you DO get to pick a replacement. (but historically in recalls there is about a 20-30% drop-off. A lot of people who vote NO don't WANT to vote for the replacements)

A reporter on KFI said that the S.O.S. will hold a news conference to certify the recall on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Bustamante said he will announce the special election the next day. Counties that have been contacted are throwing the dates of 9/30 or 10/7 as the likely dates.

Davis has until the S.O.S. announcement to resign and have Bustamante assume his office.

Show me the code, PLease. I hate passing on bad info.

In essence, allowing someone to vote twice to both retain the target official and then also pick a new successor defeats the purpose of the recall in a sense. Folks could say NO to recall davis but then vote for Cruz. Ugh!!

So .. by your measurments - Bush was toast - because he only beat Gore by less than 1%.

Next time let the crack wear off before posting.

Hmm... This thread is interesting. Check out Issa's vote on Ron Paul's UNesco de-funding bill.

I voted for Davis

You know Torie, I knew you'd vote for Davis. I fail to see how you embrace ANY conservative principles whatsoever.

You always are arguing the Liberal Side of things. If you ARE a Republican you are a DINO, and voting for a Democrat shows it.

Carry on.

He's either a RINO or a DIABLo (Democrat In All But Label), not a DINO (see Zell Miller).

It would take a D10 Cat with a large winch to drag that miserable weasely shyster from his office. You'd have to replace the carpet too for the bloody tears and embedded fingernails in it.

No way does Bray Davis resign. He thinks he's gonna beat this, and just may if the CAGOP/RINOs do it again. That's our biggest concern.

I'm a huge fan of Zell. Cool name. Cool guy.

Now Clam, just between us please don't get all negative about Repub candidates. You were the one who convinced me to vote for Simon IIRC!

At this point, Schwartz. if he runs will win. Fine. I'll vote for him. If Schwartz. doesn't run I'm voting for Simon.

Come on our taxes will suffer if we don't vote for the Repubs!

CO: I think you're right. It's going to make Florida, if we win the election look tame. He's going to make this really awful.

Did you see what his WIFE said the other day? Sharon Davis said really nasty things about Republicans...if anyone remembers what the commie b*tch said.

Simon is a worthless, disingenuous, unlikeable, difficult, empty suited trimmer that is looking for something to do with his otherwise meaningless life.

I doubt you've ever met the man. I have. He is a decent, sweet man, but way too trusting to be a politician. He does know how to get the best from his people (when they aren't deliberately screwing him) and won't blame them when they fail. In that respect, the man has class you clearly don't understand. Perhaps a personal prejudice is blinding you?

I just hope he doesn't run, both for himself and for the State. Bill Simon wants vindication for the way he was treated, but if he runs, he not only won't get that vindication, he'll lose what respect he has left for having turned the recall into a circus.

I never predicted Davis would resign prior to certification. I speculated back when he might right before the election if he knew he was going to lose, but it turned out that tactic won't legally work to install Bustamonte until the next general election. You and I were then arguing as to when Davis had to resign to stop the recall. It appears that Davis will not resign prior to 10 a.m. Thursday, so our legal argument is moot. Cheers.

I know. I was a huge Simon cheerleader.

I did things like stand on a streetcorner in Watts with a bunch of Simon signs and scream at union thugs for him. I was on the floor of the Westin when he conceded. It hurt, especially after all the senate victories.

Still, throughout most of the last month of the campaign, I felt unable to honestly defend him as a better choice to the swing voters anymore, because the "he's conservative and Davis is a Democrat" doesn't fly with them.

To say I feel a little let down by his 2002 candidacy is an understatement. I don't really want to see it in 2003.

Simon for Attorney General in 2006 if he doesn't run.

Simon for U-haul to Arizona if he does.
