Are you logged on? SOmetimes the Widget won't initialize properly if you are not logged on... and without Widgets, you wind up in a sticky wicket...

That's odd, as I thought FR was all perl on the backend. 99% of the time when you see "tomcat" it means java.

It appears you have a problem connecting to SiteStatsWidget. From here a Status 503 is:

The last line of HTML source on the FR home page is:

http://xslt.alexa.com/site_stats/js/s/a?url=www.freerepublic.com

This source line calls alexa.com for the purposes of keeping statistics on FR homepage hits. The site, alexa.com, has been experiencing technical difficulties. When it does it can act to prevent the finishing of the display of the FR home page.

This problem is not your fault and you can not do anything about it other than avoid using the FR home page. I do come to FR via the home page. I have the News Forum book marked and go directly to it: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/browse
