PARIS, France -- The top of the Eiffel Tower was on fire Tuesday night and smoke could be seen billowing from the Paris monument.
The fire broke out in a so-called technical room housing antenna equipment at the top of the tower, Paris police said. Smoke was curling from the third floor of the top level of the famous tower.

P.S. I know there is already a thread, but no article on BN.
I figured people may want to see the article, without having to wade through over 100 posts in the other thread.

That is uncalled for.
Bashing theFrench in general isone thing, wishing the ill, such as this is totally unbecoming and it just fosters the world's image of "ugly American".
Remember many people everywhere read the FR.
To: Jon Geb
perhaps you also believe that we should dismantle lady liberty, because we simply cannot accept gifts from those horrible french...

"but no article on BN" Because I took the earlier one out, because it was just an electrical fire, and it had been extinguished.
To: FairOpinion
Did the French offer any sympathies when planes toppled the WTC?

"The fire broke out in a so-called technical room housing antenna equipment at the top of the tower..." Doubt it. More likely that the fire broke out in a technical room housing electronic transmitting equipment that feeds RF power to the antennas mounted on the tower. Antenna equipment is mounted outside. Transmitters are installed INSIDE.

I find it interesting that the Arch in St. Louis had a fire in the generator room this past week, too.

I do believe they expressed their sympathies... for the people who committed the atrocity. Weren't the French front-and-center in justifying anger against the USA? And aren't they still largely claiming that the WTC attack was a government plot?

Is it possible that the origin of the fire was Chirac's pants?

Well, you could have taken this one out, I am not touchy about those things, just that the one that was up, was just the one liner, but with lost of posts.
Obviously feel free to move this down to ordinary "news", now that we know it's no big deal.
You are the boss. ;)

French sources would have spread the news earlier, but were banned from using E-mail

I mad thefollowing coent to someone who said something similar earlier:
That is uncalled for. I am sure you didn't really mean it.
Bashing the French in general isone thing, wishing the ill, such as this is totally unbecoming and it just fosters the world's image of "ugly American".
Remember many people everywhere read the FR.
I think everyone needs to be careful, that when you make an offhanded comment "off the record" sometime it's one thing, but any comment posted stays up and read by everyone, friends and foes alike, and "could be used against us".
To: Cobra64
Sorry for thetypo:
"I made the following comment..." etc.
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
They probably did....but promptly places anti-Bush and other websites on the net that accused Bush of planing and executing 9-11.
I have small sympathy for many French.

They said, "We are all Americans." That lasted for about a week. Then it was back to bashing us at evey opportunity.

I was not in on what originally started this, so I am curious only. What do you mean "could be used againts us". We need provide no fodder for anti-americans because they'll make up anything about us anyway and use it any way they want.
Here in the USA I am proud of our Freedom of Speech!
Furthermore, the French were "in bed" with Saddam OK? they have deserved the boycott by the american people - the USA government did not sponser it - we are doing it because we are FREE to boycott traitors disguised as friends!
Gee, I hope they dont use my comments againts me. . .
Sorry 'bout yer tower dudettes.
