I dont think anybody is printing stories about drag-racing presidents.

That's exactly my point. They can lie about this girl because no one can refute it, but they can't tell outrageous lies about the president or Bryant because there would be immediate proof that it was a lie.

If any of Kobe's "friends" want to step up to the mike and drag him through the mud... I'm sure the papers and tv shows would be MORE than accomadating.

I did't know he had friends.

However, so far nobody has, plain and simple. Whereas, in the case of our colorado girl.. there is a multitude of people willing to step up and reveal information about this person... and more importantly they are all local friends and townspeople....

Anyone can tell any lie they want about her because there's no one to refute it, she's not famous and therefore not watched all the time. Famous people have their every move watched, non-famous people don't.

They can lie about this girl because no one can refute it,

Well, I suppose that is one of the prices to pay for CHOSING to remain anonymous even after you have accused a person of a crime that could carry a life sentence. These stories about her could still be refuted... since colorado girl has no trouble leaking out through her accomplices.. I mean friends... that she was 'disgusted' by the Kobe press conference. Since there is a plethora of townspeople coming forward with stories about this girl... I dont see why there aren't plenty available to debunk or refute these stories. The "friend" who went to the OC register about the OD had no trouble trying to spin her original story by saying she was quoted out-of-context, after getting in trouble with her friend no doubt

Anyone can tell any lie they want about her because there's no one to refute it, she's not famous and therefore not watched all the time

Uhhh... no actually she's chosen to be anonymous.. hence she isn't available for refuting... Non-famous people are still afforded the same rights of slander and libel.
