I don't think that the victim is always blamed for rape. She'll be blamed in court by the defense attorney, but most members of the press are not about to slander someone who accuses another of rape. Since most states have rape shield laws, that will further protect the victim in court.

Since the Kobe case is so high profile, everyone can expect to get drug through the grinder. Most of it will be done by the press, not by the other side or their counsel.

It's unfortunate that people have to discuss these things, but the fact is, there are so many false rape allegations filed that it would be inequitable to expect them to remain "untouchable" by the press while the accuser is constantly slammed. Michael Irvin of the Dallas Cowboys had this same thing happen to him a few years ago. A girl accused him of rape, and the press destroyed him. It turned out to be totally untrue, and he challenged the press to recall the statements made about him with the same veracity as the smears made against him.

Sorry to hear about the girl, but at least she's doing better now.

It took years, and I still worry about her. She is fragile. She is married to a great guy- that helps. There are false allegations-no doubt. However, I believe many rapes are never reported to the authorities. Of the ones that are reported, many are not prosecuted.

You conveniently forget that he was accused of rape AFTER he had been caught with a couple of hookers and plenty of coke to go along with it. And he freely discusses all of that on the radio etc. today. The "Whitehouse" they had etc...

A lot of people here have none of the facts besides he was charged with rape but already defend him to the death. We have heard theorizing from sinkspur how she reported it because her Daddy didn't like black folks. Smogger thinks she dared not to like it up the butt and that's why she reported it. They know she liked rough sex etc. After an encounter that reportedly took less then 30 minutes.

I don't know WHAT happened and am very interested to hear what the EVIDENCE has to say but am amazed at the allegations at the girl etc... Everyone KNOWS she is a gold digger even though they know NOTHING about the evidence.

I agree. In stanger rapes, the victim is almost never blamed. It is the so-called "date rapes' where we often suspect the victim of contributing to her situation.

Let's face it, there is a huge difference between Kobe crawling through her bedroom window with a knife clenched between his teeth, and her voluntarily going to his motel room.
