During times of war a MSM aka Meritorious Service Medal is awarded in the form of a Bronze Star. Had this been a Bronze Star awarded with a V for valor I understand you getting yer panties in a bunch about it as in most cases a citation would accompany the award defining the whats ,wheres and whys. This wrong way corrigan incident doesn't warrant the secrecy or disinformational spin that is attached to it IMO. Tell the story. If Lynch was so injured to not have a clear memory of what happened then ask the others that were in the unit. DOD has allowed this pile of information to grow it's own legs and that is wrong.

The troops that were injured, fought, captured, tortured and or died in that ambush deserve to have their stories told correctly. Had this been a secret squirrel SF mission I could understand some of the BS sh*t and Shineola show but this just discredits/dishonors the individuals involved and brings more doubt upon the leadership in the Goobermint IMHO.

Clerks , Cooks and Bottle washers ect will recieve a Bronze Star for this operation. Just understand that a Bronze Star is nothing more or less than a meritorious service medal under wartime conditions for those in theater . When a V for Valor is included it becomes what most have understood it to be ....... A medal for heroism and acts of bravery while engaged in combat against the enemy.

Albeit some troops who have never left the CONUS like the wing nut mechanic in the B2 unit who recieved one while serving at Whiteman AFB. S/he was awarded one for the Bosnia Conflict I believe. Crazy.....but then I'll trust hopefully that it wasn't a kiss ass who got it but someone that busted their butt above and beyond as it should be.......

Stay Safe !

LOL! That about sums it up. What else do you expect from a society where every school student gets an "A" just for showing up for class, and every kid who plays in the game gets a trophy. Anything else would "impact their self-esteem"...

It is a little unusual for a PFC to get the BSM - normally it goes to folks in some leadership capacity.

PFC Lynch is a big star though, and somebody apparently thought her deserving of more than an AAM/ARCOM.

When I received my first Army Accommodation Medal (ARCOM) in Vietnam the citation was actually pre-printed. Means very little. I received an Army Achievement Medal (lower in stature than the ARCOM) at Ft Hood for my work in a major exercise. I am much prouder of that AAM than the pre-printed ARCOM. The most meaningful is without a doubt the handwritten thank you note I received with a Meritorious Service Medal I was awarded after I had already left active duty. The medal is just that, a medal - the words that come with it and the actions that were performed are where the real meaning lies.

The same LTC who wrote the above note often commented that soldiers were a strange bunch, we would willingly put our lives on the line knowing the only physical reward we would see might be a piece of medal attached to a ribbon that was pinned to our chests.
