Most soldiers do not have access to telephones or the internet. Communication with home is solely by letter.

Not true.

Great read. Course the press would never print something like this, only letters with guys whining about wanting to go home and such.

Thanks for the post. I sent my mother it, since she is always freaking out from the CNN reports.

True for some, son has no computer and only has access to a sat. phone once every 3-4 weeks and is limited to 5 minutes at a time. We rely on letters!

American soldiers receive a housing allowance, which depends on where they live. They also get paid a basic allowance for subsistence of $242 a month. However, soldiers in Iraq do not get this, as food is provided.

And if there isn't enough room for them to live on base, their housing allowance generally does not cover the cost or renting a typical apartment, they have to cough up the extra on their own.

Lol! We'll get it settled soon. This post is the best I've seen since the embeds left. Deserves widespread attention. This pack of press wankers won't hesitate to cause trouble for the author. I think we could round up a few people here at FR to stand up with him against the BBC, CNN and the rest of 'em. Heck, we'd have most of America up in arms against the press if they ever find out what THIS press is doing to our troops and our war effort.

Agreed. We need to send this far and wide - to veteran's groups, homeschoolers, pro-American special interest groups. Forget the press. Take this to the people. Enough's enough. Our press is aiding and abetting the enemy and endangering our troops. We knew. This letter confirms it.

Absolutely nothing. However, there are the occasional sat phone calls and (this is a big surprise) the BBC seems to have missed that fact.
