Maybe he can join the demo/socialist race for Prez and become the 10th dwarf!

So can we now deduce that giving the Dem response to the SOTU is the political kiss of death?...Boy..who's gonna do it NEXT year.....BTW, I'm really surprised..I predicted here a year ago that he was my long shot pick for the 2004 Dem VP nomination..

Wasn't this the guy that gave the Dem's response to the SOTU? I thought he was supposed to be one of their "up-n-comers"?

Rest assured the DNC has a job lined up for him. He's not running for the same reason that California's Davis is in hot water.

The DNC is putting him in charge of driving dead people to the polls in the northwest.

Washington is almost totally controlled by the Seattle-Tacoma metropolis, notoriously liberal. I think that creates a business climate that is not all that supportive, thus the Boeing problems.

Washington's Gov. Gary Locke, a key Democrat, decides against bid for third term, cites family
By David Ammons, Associated Press, 7/21/2003 11:38
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) Gov. Gary Locke, chairman of America's Democratic governors, announced Monday that he won't seek a third term next year.

Locke, 53, the country's first Chinese-American governor and the Democrats' choice to answer President Bush's State of the Union Address last January, saying he reached the decision ''after much thought and careful deliberations with my family.''

''As profoundly important as it is to be your governor, it is just as important to me to be a good husband and father,'' he said in a statement.

He said he would work hard for the remainder of his term, focusing especially on education, jobs, health care and the environment.

He gave no hint what his next career might be. He has been mentioned as potentially serving as a foundation or university president, joining a major law or investment firm or working in international development for Microsoft, Boeing or another corporate giant.

Locke became chairman of the Democratic Governors' Association last year.

By the time Locke completes his second four-year term in January 2005, he will have been in public life for 27 years, having started as a deputy King County prosecutor.

He served in the state House of Representatives 11 years, first winning in 1982 from a liberal Seattle district by defeating an incumbent from his own party. He then served as King County executive.

Probably. I have also heard Christine Gregoire's name. She was the former insurance commissioner and IMHO actually did a pretty good job.
Maybe Jennifer Dunn will try it, we can only hope.

Jennifer Dunn

What's the scoop on her? Other than being big on promoting the Amber Alerts.

She is quite conservative, strong RKBA, pro-family. She doesn't live or come from the downtown district, I think she lives in rural Pierce county somewheres, as do I. Member of the House Conservative caucus, very well qualified to be gov.

I know nothing about Washington politics (being a poor little Georgia gal), so what do think her chances would be? I mean is she well-liked as a person, even by the Dems?

She is treated fairly by the news media, they're probably in a bind, because she is Republican, but she's one of the "special" minorities, so they have to give her some respect.
A republican gov in this state probably doesn't have much of a chance. The dem's hijacked the republican primary a few cycles ago and all voted for a woman who was strongly anti-abortion (and I'm not saying that's wrong), and also almost an extremist religious fundamentalist. The best pubbie cantidate from Eastern Washington didn't stand a chance. Actually, I think that was the election Locke first won.

Rep. Dunn would make an excellent governor but I doubt if see is interested. A lot of us had hoped she would challenge Patty Murray next time for the senate but she says no. I'd have to say she is pretty well respected on both sides of the aisle.
