Two explosions rock Kosovo's capital
PRISTINA, Serbia-Montenegro (AP) - Two separate explosions ripped through Kosovo's capital on Sunday evening, targeting a police station and the vicinity of the district court.
No one was reported injured.
The blasts occurred just a few minutes after 9 p.m. (1900 GMT) in the province's capital, Pristina. The first explosion went off near the city's district courthouse, said Barry Fletcher, a U.N. police spokesman.
Less then a minute later, what appeared to be a hand grenade exploded at a police station, damaging a U.N. vehicle in the parking lot.
The station is occupied by U.N. and local police officers, he added.
"It appears they were deliberate attacks on the buildings,'' Fletcher said.
He said it appeared no one was injured in the blasts. The motive for the attack remained unknown, he said.
Police and NATO-led peacekeepers rushed to the scene and cordoned off the areas. Traffic was diverted as NATO's bomb disposal teams were investigating the blasts.
It was the second attack on a police station in four days.
On Thursday, an explosion occurred near a station staffed by U.N. and local police in the town of Podujevo, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Pristina.
Four former ethnic Albanian rebels who were convicted of war crimes Wednesday by a U.N.-run court in Kosovo came from the area.
It is unclear whether their convictions were a factor in these blasts.
Kosovo has been administered by the United Nations and NATO-led peacekeepers since June 1999, following a 78-day alliance bombing campaign to force an end to a crackdown on ethnic Albanian militants led by former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.

Clinton dragged him home from the mission after the Brits accused him of trying to start world war 3 by wanting to fire on the Russians who controlled a small airport.

The motive for the attack remained unknown Of course it wouldn't be Albanian rebels. After all, they got Kosovo and that history is over.

Few people realize how close Clinton came to starting such a war. The Russians held their first nuclear strike war games in years after that and cought NATO command by suprise whan their bombers appeared in the North Atlantic and fired off a cruise missile over NATO territory. Then the Russians sent bombers to take a picture of an aircraft carrier-the picture being the kill-catching the carrier by suprise-no fighters were scrambled--and then the Russians faxed the pic to the Pentagon as proof of the deed and as a warning.
Clark was retired prematurely without his knowledge.

Kosovo: UN Police, Judiciary Targeted After War Crimes Verdict
Prishtina, 21 July 2003 (RFE/RL) -- United Nations officials in Kosovo say the UN-run police and judiciary are apparently being targeted with violence following the convictions of former ethnic Albanian rebels on war crimes charges.
Yesterday, an antitank rocket was fired at the district courthouse in the Kosovo capital Prishtina. A second explosion hit a police station occupied by UN and local police. No injuries were reported in the attacks.
The head of the UN police, Stefen Feller, said the violence was an attempt to "disrupt unbiased court proceedings."
Last week, a Kosovo court found four former ethnic Albanian rebels guilty of committing war crimes against civilians during the 1998-99 conflict with Serbian forces.
The court sentenced former Kosovo Liberation Army commander Rustem Mustafa to 17 years in prison. The three others received between 13 and five years.

Well, I'm glad the war criminals are convicted and locked up, and I'm not surprised that the armed Kosovars are behaving badly. That's certainly no surprise to anyone familiar with the region.
For my part, I think ALL war criminals in the former Yugoslavia should be sent to the Hague. ALL of them.
ALL of them.

I'm not surprised that the armed Kosovars are behaving badly. My family is comprised of many "Kosovars" of Serbian Orthodox background. Thank you for apologizing for any "behaving badly" that they may have done. I could write books on the hardships they've suffered at the hands of "Kosovars" of Albanian Muslim background. After all, it was only "revenge attacks" that the Serbian Orthodox "Kosovars" we're doing to the Albanian Muslim "Kosovars". How should ANYBODY be surprised?
It's great to have a fine thinking young man such as yourself on the Serbs' side. Life in Kosovo was really hard on Serbian Kosovars from 1974-1979 and since the Empire's occupation in 1999.
Welcome aboard!!

should read... "1974-1989"... but I'm sure you sure you already knew what I was talking about, Bratchko.
