Because they are greedy and trying to throw their weight around.They sure are going back a long time in the chain of title here. Perhaps they just want to right old wrongs. This might be a good time for the Jews to discuss reparations for pre-Moses slavery since the Egyptians are so anxious to settle old accounts.

The problem with that is that no evidence exists that the Jewish people ever were slaves in Egypt, outside of the Old Testament account. Biblical scholars and Egyptologists have searched in vain for any references or clues that would corroborate the Exodus story.
