Besides, if the Secret Service starts paying people calls over something like this, then we should just start referring to them by their initials...

Actually, Ramirez is a pretty reliable conservative, even though he works at a very liberal paper. He used to be here in Memphis at the now very liberal Commercial Appeal, before it threw away any semblance of balance on its editorial board.

But he made a big mistake here, and owes an apology to his readers and President Bush. I understand his point - I even agree with it, in terms of the attempted character assassination of the President on specious charges of lying, even though the statement in question was and is absolutely true.

But the President is different from the rest of us in regard to how he can be portrayed, by law. Every threat to his safety is a threat to the nation, and Ramirez failed to recognize that. Too bad. I hate it when one of the good guys goes off the reservation.

They may not always be at the top of their game, but they get paid to be paranoid. Checking out this cartoonist and any possible threats sounds like procedure.

Democrats are evil lying perverted socialist scum who must be fought on their terms.

The GOP and RNC are PATHETIC.

Time for a Republican who isn't a milquetoast to kick some tail is running out.

The Rats would make sure every American saw this cartoon and would conduct opinion polls on it.

IT WOULD LEAD ABCCBSNBC snooze.

I will not send a single cent to the RNC until it gets off its lily white college boy priviledged butt and starts engaging in some serious street fighting.

I think your expectations are off the mark - FReepers are the street fighters, not the RNC. They supply the data and we fight the battles. That's how it works.

And ... in case you haven't heard, both the House and the Senate were successful in their battles last week. Guess you didn't notice.

Sorry, I was too busy working 14 hours a day to keep up with the latest nonsense being perpertrated by our Congresscritters.

I'm pretty sure charges that the Democratic party is responsible for 9-11 and N. Korea having the bomb are paramount, but I don't have a Federal pension, so I wouldn't know.

Paging the Secret Service.

I wonder how many of their readers will get what poster is being satirized. Aslo, save this one on your hard drive, folks. I suspect this is the equivalent of running a "Reagan's going to lose next year" cartoon in July of 1983.

Actually, Ramirez is a conservative. The cartoon is pro-Bush, decrying the lib's attempts to indulge in character assassination through petty politics.

OK, I see it now, and additionally he could be commenting on the futility of the Dem attacks; that photo of the street execution sure didn't do the South Viet govt any good...

Still, nobody should ever show a gun to the head of the POTUS or any other high official like that. Just ain't right.

The cartoonist should have known better than to employ such a provocative image. However, his editor is as much at fault if not more. What good is an editor who cannot or will not spike such a cartoon?

I tend to believe the editor allowed the cartoon for reasons unrelated to good editorial practice.

I agree the cartoon is pro-Bush, but c'mon. Not allowing someone to portray the POTUS with a gun to his head is "worship?"

Nah, but the OUTRAGE is annoying. Enough already. Our ancestors were worse to our presidents. Anyone want me to post what they drew about Grant?

It looks like the LA Times lost their nigh only, out of place conservative voices due to his misjudgement. I believe most here are unaware of Ramirez
as few would bother to get their fingers dirty with LA Times newsprint(justifiably so).

I meant "voice". He always did seem really out of place and I wondered how they let him get away with it

Ramirez is the best thing going at LA Slimes.

He's the only conservative on their staff.
