His name is Sean. He would be happy to know that freepers are praying for him. He's a conservative guy and was the one person I could talk "politics" and issues with in real life without worrying about walking on pc egg shells.
My dad called a bit ago to say his spleen also needs to be removed and right now the prognosis is not good. My dad has a tendency to read negatively between the lines, so please pray that is all that it is.
Hoping to get out of here in the next couple of hours.
Love you all!
Karen

You have not passed this way before.

Joshua 3:4 ;Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.

When Stephen was 8, he was invited to stay overnight at a cousin's house. It was his first time away from home and it all sounded like an exciting adventure. But when his mother took him there, he started getting that homesick feeling. With tears glistening in his eyes and his voice quivering, he said, "Mommy, I don't feel so good. I'd better go home with you."

His mother responded, "It's up to you, but I know you'd have a good time."

"But Mommy," Stephen whimpered, "they said they were going to climb a big hill tomorrow, and I've never been there before!"

We too can become fearful sometimes as we look ahead, because we've "never been there before." But just as the Lord took care of Joshua and Israel (Joshua 3), He will take care of us.

Perhaps right now you are anxious about some new and untried pathway on which the Lord is leading you. Then listen to God's Word and take courage: "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. . . . He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake" (Psalm 23:1,3).

Place your hand by faith in your heavenly Father's hand, and let Him lead the way.

Your brother and all the family have my prayers. I, perhaps more than most, have some deeper understanding of this situation. My son is a Type 1 diabetic and every time he gets behind the wheel of a car I know the risks and I worry.

God bless your brother and keep him and help him pull through this.

One more thought, Miami has a large, dedicated diabetes clinic. If there is any question about appropriate treatment, perhaps consultation there would be helpful.

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you will be with Karens brother. Keep him in your watch care and relieve him of any pain that he may have. I ask that he will have a speedy recovery also.

Be with Karen and her family as they travel to Florida to be with him in his time of need. Amen

bump to the top update thingy

I wanted to thank you all for your prayers. My brother nearly died from this accident. He was transfused with 9 liters of blood in the beginning and lost his spleen and had his liver repaired. My brother is better, but suffering from numerous complications both as a result of the trauma and shock and his diabetes. They repaired his leg without incidence, but his hip surgery is still waiting until they figure out if he has had a minor stroke at some point(likely what caused the accident if it is verified). The shock of loosing so much blood and then receiving so much fluid has graduated him to kidney failure and he continues to receive dialysis(they say he was in the early stages of kidney disease prior to the accident). They won't know for a while yet if this will be permanent and he will be added to the waiting list for a transplant or not. Time will tell.
Unfortunately, the latest complication is very personal for him so I won't share. He was in a lot of pain today because of it:-(
He is only 27 years old and while out of critical care where he spent everyday until yesterday, he still has a potential for a lot of complications from his injuries and diabetes. I sure would appreciate if those who prayed for him will continue to keep him on your prayer list. He's having a lot of emotional ups and downs right now too since he doesn't feel his life is complete and would still like to marry and have children. His prayer has been to God to get him through this and bless him with 10 or 15 more years so he can marry and have children.
I think my visit was good for him, but I now leave him with my mother, who will take good care of him, and my father who is a complete wreck(a selfish self centered person who thinks this is about him and currently is complaining that all of his children are playing mind games with him--as is par for the course, his life is falling apart once again and it's everyone else's fault but his own). I'm saying this because my brother needs big spiritual prayers to protect his emotional health from my father as well. I am convinced my dad's intimidation stiffled him before this accident and if this influence continues it will not be positive for my brother. My mother could also use prayers. She has had to deal with my father's verbal assaults since I left to come home a couple of days ago and I can tell it is wearing on her and she needs her strength now to deal with my brother when he starts the therapy for his injuries.
One thing I realized after this week is that it was an absolute blessing that I was kicked out in one of my dad's irrational tirades as a teen and it was a blessing that I took the chances I did that put me far out of reach of that grasp. God blessed my life after living that hell ten times over. I hope the same blessing can find it's way to my brother. I don't think he can live a full life until he is healed and he and my mother can leave for better things far away from my dad's influence. I'm sorry to bring all of this up, but I believe it's a big part of if, how, and when my brother's health will improve.

Karen, thanks for the long update with much information. I am very, very pleased that Sean is doing better and hope the progress continues. He has such a long road ahead. Just to remind you, I have a 21 year old son with type 1 diabetes. I guess I understand the medical issues and the seriousness of the effect of his diabetes on everything else more than most.

I am so sorry to hear about the family turmoil--I pray your father will see that, at this particular time especially, he needs to step back, close his mouth and just allow the physical and emotional healing that Sean needs to happen. I grew up in a family with lots of these kinds of things going on, too. Sean is very lucky to have a strong, understanding and supportive sister like you. Perhaps you can be the counter balance to all the 'stuff' coming from your dad.

I will continue to have you, your mom and, most certainly, Sean in my thoughts and prayers. I will even pray that God will help your dad see the need for change.

A note to Sean: Tough as it is, I hope you will try hard to keep a positive, hopeful outlook. You will have lots to overcome but prayers and faith can do much to ease the burden. I will pray that each day will be a little better and easier than the last and that as the days pass your strength will grow.
A friend across the miles,
Nancy
