SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Embattled Gov. Gray Davis rturned to friendly territory today as he tried to galvanize allies against an apparently inevitable recall election.

Anyone think they'll bring the vote ballot counters over from Florida. If so, they'll be counting for months and Davis will die of old age by the time they're finished.

Davis doesn't need to be on the ballot. Just vote No to the first part.

Riordan says he's not running and he supports Arnold. It's going to take a bit of money to hit the airwaves big time during the abbreviated campaign. I think all the big money is sitting tight waiting to see what Arnold does.

How could we go from bad to worse in California?

Vote for Arnold and find out!

Roll this scenario. Red Davis, vastly unpopular, is voted out of office. On the same ballot, or at least at the same election, there is supposed to be a list of candidates to select from, to vote in as substitute governor. Red Davis is specifically denied a place on this part of the ballot. Other than that, anyone who can get a sufficient number of signatures on a petition, and is a legally registered voter in California, may be listed on the ballot.

Given the very partisan nature of state politics in California, danged near anybody could become governor there.

Spooky.

I think the ballot has two questions:

1. Recall the Gov yes or no.

2. If the gov is recalled, vote for one of the following (list of candidates does not include the recalled gov.). If he's recalled he can't run in the recall election to replace himself. Now, I'm getting dizzy.

"The only declared major-party candidate is that lawmaker, U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista."

I heard a radio ad for him, on Wednesday Jul 16th.

My prediction:

Fall election (court cases yesterday).

In spite of previous claims, one fairly prominent democrat will run.

Multiple Republican candidates.

A very real possibility that the California Republican party could snatch defeat from the jaws of opportunity.

If the Democrats will really stay united behind Davis and they really won't have any Democrats in the recall election, your guy McClintock may actually have a chance!

I may even consider voting for him. ;)

I wouldn't vote for Simon -- he really screwed up the last election.

It is s\ spooky considering the fact that danged near anyone could be on the ballot! LOL I wonder if meathead will head the list. That would REALLY be a tragedy for the folks in CA who care about their state.
