White House buttresses Iraq claim [Strategery at work]

The White House yesterday released newly declassified intelligence and dispatched a senior administration official to explain how erroneous material ended up in the State of the Union address.

The intelligence declassified yesterday — portions of the October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), a U.S. intelligence summary based on the work of six agencies — asserts "compelling evidence" that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was "intent on acquiring" nuclear-weapons material.

This statement by the State Dept. is very disturbing to me. If there were 6 agencies that thought the source was good, and Niger and Irag already had a history of such purchases since 1979, why would the State Dept. consider it "highly dubious". Curious ..??

NBC and ABC news splashed that phrase across the screen and ignored everything else.As far as they were concerned, the whole report contained just those two words. Astonishing,isn't it?

I strongly advise that you get Cheney and the other beltway insiders off the UraniumGate "crisis management" team ASAP. They have no clue what they're doing. They're the same kind of fumblers who doomed Nixon. Put Karl Rove in charge of this mess. Stop feeding the sharks: Clamp down on the information, stop making admissions, get your story straight and stick to it. Then, attack relentlessly the Democrats on their hypocrisy and harming national security. Take out TV ads in their home districts. Attack the media if necessary- criticize their yellow journalism. Managing this media-fomented "crisis" is key to your re-election effort and GOP chances in 2004. Believe it or not, the scandal CAN escalate from here.
