Why did it take them 17 days to come up with charges? Should they not have known the day the girl reported it and was examined whether the evidence was enough for a charge?

I think they may charge Kobe with this but he will walk. They don't have enough money to pursue this, the entire county doesn't have the money that Kobe does.

Usually it takes longer. They wanted to test the forensic evidence I guess, which usually takes a while.

Well, it takes time to test DNA, longer if done with ironclad precision. If you charge him right away, Cochran will just come in and say "rush to judgment." I'm glad they took their time, thought through the case, made their decision, and went with it.

Celebrities never do jail time, so don't get all worried about it.

Oh, I would think testing physical evidence for DNA to verify and doing interviews and such would account for the time.

I would think they would take into consideration the possibility that the victim was making a false charge and seeking publicity for its own sake. Obviously the DA has considered, investigated and discarded that possibility and now it will be up to a jury to see if he can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. Unless Bryant cops a plea.

I can guarantee you this DA took his time making sure he had a case against such a high profile individual. You can rest assure that the "victim" passed a polygraph test. The real reason polygraph results are not admissable in court is because it would put half the trial lawyers out of business. Polygraphs today have 98% accuracy, a little better than the OJ debacle.

"Why did it take them 17 days to come up with charges?"

Million dollar endorsement deals.

The lawmen and prosecutors weren't just dealing with Kobe. They were dealing with multi-million dollar ad campaigns and company reputations. It would be the same if it was Kobe or Alfred E. Newman or whom ever as long as the high stakes ad endorsements were there.
