Where was Scott?
Where Was Scott? The question of Scott Peterson's whereabouts before his arrest in San Diego may finally be answered.
Peterson left Modesto about a month before police arrested him for the murder of his wife, Laci, and their unborn son.
His half-sister now says that Scott went to her house in the Berkeley hills to escape the media.
She says he spent time gardening and playing with her kids and even filed a police report about graffiti vandals in the neighborhood.

Peterson hid from media in Berkeley
"Weeks before his arrest, Scott Peterson stayed with a half-sister in the Berkeley Hills, far from reporters who had flocked to Modesto to cover the disappearance and murder of his wife, Laci, and the couple's unborn son. More Details"
Scott Peterson's half sister's name is Anne

On a day of fastbreaking developments, the focus in the case becomes squarely aimed at Scott Peterson.
It begins on Thursday night when Peterson breaks his silence and gives a few brief comments to a pair of television reporters.
Hours later, the Modesto Bee hits the streets with a story saying investigators have told Laci's family that Scott was having an affair and had taken out a $250,000 insurance policy on her. The family also was allegedly shown pictures of Scott with another woman.
With the story still evolving, Peterson calls Ted Rowlands of KTVU and says the Modesto Bee story was a "bunch of lies." He denies he had anything to do with his wife's disappearance.

Thanks for the ping, RB, looks like there will be quite a few "high profile" cases this winter!

Primetime: In the Shadow of Laci. I saw it. I found it very irritating. These people were complaining that their cases didn't get as much media attention as Laci. Well, guess what? You have to have EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES in a murder/disappearance to garner the attention of the media and the public. Yes, it's shockingly true! People disappear. People get murdered, but it must be ABOVE AND BEYOND the 'normal' crime to get the attention of anybody for very long.
A story needs "legs" to keep it going. That's a fact. If there is no more info besides so and so disappeared, where are they?, then it will die. That's just reality. So shut the heck up about people only care about Laci because she's white. It just so happens that the story has twists and turns that keep people interested.
Oh, and Elizabeth Vargas, why didn't you cover any missing MEN in your segment? Don't they matter? Are you sexist?

I'm glad I didn't see that program then if it was just some Latino's griping that they didn't get coverage like the Laci case because they were Latino. That is just bull!! I agree with your assessment. The case has to have "legs" and some very unusual circumstances to grab and "hold" the publics attention.!!

Hey Howlin - How goes it??? I was really turned off by that Kobe Bryant press conference. My gawd, they facial contortions, twisting his face, sucking in his mouth etc. etc. - drove me nuts. I thought he looked and sounded guilty as sin. I'm sorry, but he did NOT come off well. They best not have him testify on his own behalf.

Elizabeth Vargas should ask herself why the Kobe case is getting so much press. He's not white. It's because he's a rich, superstar sports figure who has a family-man rep. Unexpected, out-of-the-blue, bizarre. That's why these cases get picked, by and large. Sheesh.
The Laci case. Why is it so big? Let me count the ways: Modesto, Christmas Eve, dog with leash running through neighborhood, advanced pregnancy, clean-cut looking husband who's cheating, sociopath who fooled everybody, attractive teacher victim, husband fishing Christmas Eve, bodies found in same bay, husband dying hair with money ready to escape to Mexico. I'm sure I've forgotten a few things, but there it is.
