WASHINGTON (AP) When the Bush administration issued its pre-war claims that Iraq had sought uranium in Africa, the CIA had not yet obtained the documents that served as a key foundation for the allegation and later turned out to be forged, U.S. officials say.

Great theories from "MJY1288" on another thread from last night

post 231:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/947473/posts?page=245#245

here is what I think will be uncovered

Fisrt of all, The U.S. government had more than just the forged document to base their assumption that Saddam was trying to strike a deal for "Yellow Cake" (Uranium Oxide) and since the MI6 would not share what they knew, the CIA was not comfortable with confirming the intel they had.

Sometime early last year a Document was purchased that appeared to show a Uranium deal between Iraq and Niger. the document was shared with the State Department, the CIA and the DCI, it was openly shared with the U.N. and later determined to be a forgery, but the key is, the CIA DID NOT recieve the info of the forgery until after the President gave the SOTU speech

Here is the rub....... Dick Cheney inquired about Iraq's attempts to purchase "Yellow Cake" from Africa long before the forged document was purged, the CIA sent Joseph Wilson at the request of his wife Valerie Plame to investigate this possibility despite the fact that Joseph Wilson had absolutely no experience in this type of work.

This is where politics got in the mix, Joe Wilson and his wife saw this as an opportunity to do a little fact finding of their own because someone in the CIA was holding back on reporting they had a forged document and after Joe Wilson returned and gave his verbal report that said Niger was in the clear, it was time to forward the forgery info to the CIA and the White House, problem is, that info didn't go through the process until after GWB gave his SOTU speech and verified by the U.N as a forgery

IMHO the Administration was tipped off of the forged document and that is why Colin Poweel didn't use it in his presentation to the U.N., but it was too late because the document was already in the U.N report and the IAEA chairman (Alberday) used it against us right after Powell was done his speech. That is when the brew ha ha started.

The Dems had their report from Wilson and a forged document presented in a report and the plan was to wait until the right time to make a big deal of it. The White House got tipped about Wilson's OpEd going to published in the NYT's and Ari Fliesher fired off the memo to the NYT's and the Wash Post that they should'nt have used those 16 words in the SOTU knowing it was cause a firestorm, but the White House has been one step in front of them and now it's time for the squeeze play :-)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it :-)

Post 390:
Good Morning, The key to this whole deal is Joseph Wilson and his wife, "the former Valerie Plame" (what ever the hell "the former" means)

Considering that she is an operative in the CIA and works in the area of "Nuclear Proliferation" tells me she is involved. Why did the CIA have the Bogus document for almost a year and nobody figured out it was a forgery? That makes absolutely no sense. I think the CIA was aware they had a problem from within and that's why Jack Straw made the comment he did in his latest press release, he said they couldn't share the Intel with us "For Good Reasons" "(for which I have addressed in private session)" since when has the British not been able to share Intel with us?

I think Bill, Hillary, Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame and Terry McAuliffe are going to get exposed for this scam and I'm not sure of the illegalities, but it's serious

post 393:

Good morning! I am so sorry I went to bed last night before you started laying out your theory! I find it all highly plausible, especially the McAuliffe connection, given that before Tenet released his statement McAuliffe yelled out the window of his very expensive SUV at Bryan Wilson of Fox News, "Bush is going down!"

piasa has been investigating this from another angle, and also thinks South Africa may never have removed all their nuclear weapons like they were supposed to have done when they disarmed several years ago. He thinks South Africa might have been the actual source of the uranium, and that this is why they offered, if you will remember, to send their crack disarmament team to Iraq before the war. Also, the guy who has just been named to head the team that is set to go into Iraq now is a Greek who was in charge of the UN's inspection of South Africa.

If Niger was a red herring (remember, no one ever said Niger in the speech) and if the uranium came from South Africa, this would explain why after meeting with Bill Clinton Nelson Mandela turned on Bush and started those wild accusations including calling him a racist. If Clinton knew about the Niger document scam, and he also knew about the uranium sale from South Africa (through Chirac) then he could have given Mandela a heads up and "encouraged" him to attack Bush.

I need charts and lists. I am now having to rely too much on my memory of events, and this is not always the best method! LOL

You are right...

"The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

FYI, a very simple "Google Search" comes up with the transcript of the SOU address of 1/29/2003. Above is the line.

Since the POTUS is regularly on the phone with PM Blair, I am certain that this bit of news was passed along LONG BEFORE any documents flowed to the CIA.

Typical demonrat "Tempest in a Pee-Pot"!!!

Another great Freeper time line/truth detector post.

Some of the Dem Senators are saying they were swayed by the "lies" in the SOTU speech and wouldn't have voted to give Bush the power to go to war with Iraq if they had known the truth. Funny thing is though. They voted in October and the speech wasn't until January. Of course, they babble this nonsense to the reporters from ABC,CBS,CNN,etc. and all the reporter does is nod his head.

Like the movie "Fight Club", the 1st Rule of Leftist Reporter Club, is, don't ever talk about it.
Second rule is: don't ever question an obvious RAT lie.
Third rule is: always make a conservative look like a liar, even if you have to lie to do it.

Simple job they have when you think about, the only bad part is having to swallow all the RAT DNA all the time.

Thanks. Curt Weldon was hot last night on CSPAN when he was saying this on the floor. He also said he would keep repeating it while the Dems were doing this. We need more Republicans to do it and do it on the news shows. He also pointed out how many were killed in the Kosovo bombings (more than are claimed in the bombing of Iraq) and how all the genocidal claims Clinton made turned out to be false. When the transcript comes out I'm going to post it on another thread.

When the Niger claim first arose, the CIA sent a retired diplomat to Africa to investigate in February 2002. The diplomat, Joseph Wilson, reported finding no credible evidence that Iraq was seeking uranium from Niger.

Item: The selection of Wilson (a Democrat hack and anti-Iraq war shill) may have resulted from his wife's (Valerie Plame) lobbying--she being a CIA analyst.

Item: Wilson did not say he found no evidence Iraq was seeking uranium from Niger. He said he found no evidence of a transaction, a wholly different matter.

Item: Wilson made no mention of the 2003 SOTUS uranium reference in his Lehrer interview or Nation op-ed in February 2003. Wilson waited until July 6--the day before Bush left for Africa--to spew his NYT hit piece.

This timing seems very pre planned: Wilson made no mention of the 2003 SOTUS uranium reference in his Lehrer interview or Nation op-ed in February 2003. Wilson waited until July 6--the day before Bush left for Africa--to spew his NYT hit piece.
