Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Joy Renee Parada, 31, Wednesday in connection with the robbery of an 89-year-old woman who was dragged alongside a car earlier this month.
The victim, a resident of the Merrywood assisted living center, 3600 Park Road, was in the parking lot of her complex at 1 p.m. on July 7 when a woman in a car stopped to ask directions, police said.
Police said the suspect then asked the woman for change, grabbed her purse and tried to flee, briefly dragging the woman, who suffered only bruises and scratches, police said.
Police -- after issuing a warrant for Parada's arrest Tuesday -- located Parada at a motel Wednesday and followed her to Freedom Mall. She was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, officials said.
Parada's prior convictions include two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle in 1997, felony breaking and entering and larceny in 2001, reckless driving to endanger in 2002, and two counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia in 1997 and 1999.
Parada is being held in Mecklenburg County jail and currently awaits a bond hearing.
