Biblical verses removed from Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Arizona (Reuters) -- After more than three decades at the Grand Canyon, three bronze plaques inscribed with biblical passages have been removed by U.S. park officials over concern that the religious messages violate the U.S. Constitution, officials said Monday.

This is getting ridiculous. I believe the ACLU should be outlawed.

I don't believe the majority of American citizens want this to happen.

It's time to change the law back.

They were just fine for 33 years. The ACLU is pushing their religion, secular humanism, because it goes so well with the oppressive socialism they want to foist on us. Oh well. They can't take God out of our hearts and souls.

Today I read an article about the establishment of a governing council in Iraq, in which Muslim clerics will have considerable influence because Iraq is primarily Muslim and we wish to respect their traditions, etc.

But what about respecting the Judeo-Christian tradition of the majority of Americans right here in our own country?

There was nothing in those verses that could possibly have offended any group, except the 1 millionth of 1 percent that are ACLU members. Why do they get to dominate the rest of us?

This is the type of thing that worries me as much,if not more than,some of the fiscal policies of the current administration.These items survived eight years of the U. S. Department of Interior as ran by Bill Clinton and didn't make it three years under George Bush's Interior Department.Why?

Ummm, the First Amendment forbids state-established churches. I'm not sure that these plaques count.

More importantly, the ACLU didn't sue to get them removed, they didn't have a court order, they didn't ask that they be removed even, they simply inquired about to whom they belonged. The kneejerk reaction of removing them was something the NPS did.

Let's cover that story this way:

Here's the way the ACLU works. Take something from the Constitution, and sue over the part THAT FITS. Sure, the 'no establishment of religion' clause fits nicely here, but they left off 'or the prohibition thereof.' Same with the 2nd amendment. A 'militia' doesn't 'mean' the individual citizen, you see. No irony that it was included so that the 'individual' could be armed to overthrow a tyrannical government. I 'get' their tactics, just not their actual motive. I wonder specifically what about Christianity frightens them so much - besides outlawing it basically undermines each and every principle this country was built on and all of our values. Oh, wait! I just answered my own question.

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that these plaques were a gift put up with private funds. So, I wonder, are the folks that originally collected and donated the money going to be compensated?

The plaques will be returned this week to their owners, the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary in Phoenix, Oltrogge said. The signs were taken out last week.
