UN VOTE TODAY !
15 July 30
Posted on 07/15/2003 11:41:11 AM PDT by Suck My AR-16
July 15, 2003
Our opportunity is at hand! We wanted a vote on Congressman Ron Paul's H.R. 1146 (withdrawing the United States from the United Nations) and we got it.
The House will vote late this afternoon or early evening on H.R. 1146 as an amendment to H.R. 1950 Foreign Relations Authorization Act. The amendment reads: "Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, none of the funds authorized to be appropriated by this Act, may be obligated or expended to pay any United States contribution to the United Nations or any affiliated agency of the United Nations."
In plain language, that gets the U.S. out of the U.N. no money, no membership.
This is not a dress rehearsal this is your life. Put down your pencils, start contacting people...start with your U.S. representative and then spread the word. It's time to stop talking about how bad the United Nations really is and do something about it:
Get the U.S. out of the U.N.!

My congressman (Rick Larsen) voted no, of course. I'll probably fire off an email at him, but it won't do any good.
Actually I'm suprised by the (large) number of Republican congressmen who voted 'nay' for the King (R-IA) amendment (voted on earlier today as well), which would've limited the U.S. contribution to the U.N. regular budget - contributions to other U.N. programs would not be affected - to an amount no greater than that paid by any other permanent Security Council member. Compared to the Paul amendment, this is pretty tame stuff. ....But still the RINOs couldn't bring themselves to vote for it.
To: JustPiper
No, it lost big. ...only 74 'yea' votes.
To: Mr. Mojo
But still the RINOs couldn't bring themselves to vote for it. And it's sad to note that many on this thread consider them to be the "real" Republicans.

Yep, just like they consider that only "real" Republicans are in favor of renewing the Assault Weapons ban..... or in favor of the Education Bill, CFR, open borders, and sending billions of taxpayer dollars directly into the deep pockets of African dictators (ostensibly to fight AIDS).

I got this a little late.. but I am glad we have a by name list of who the REAL American Congressmen are.... I did not expect this to pass but the list of supporters is growing.. and that is GREAT... rest assured we will get another vote on this....

I'm glad your congressman is such a UN fan. Mine sure as hell isn't.My congressman has an ACU rating of 88. Others in the Wisconsin congressional delegation, Paul Ryan and James Sensenbrenner, have ACU ratings of 96 and 92, respectively. By comparison, your boy Paul is a flaming liberal. His ACU rating is 76.

I don't know
I didn't think you did.
however they do have the same anti-war goal--wasn't that why Paul aligned himself with ultra-liberals and a socialist on the DeFazio-Paul joint resolution, after all?
No. Ron Paul's biggest objection is that it was not fought under a declared war as directed by the US Constitution. The liberal socialists objected because they are partisan hacks that would rather coddle tyrant dictators than show any support for the President. I personally believe Ron Paul shouldn't have signed on to anything presented by liberals but to say they have the same goals is like saying President Bush and Clinton are like minded people when they say saddam must be overthrown; same words, different reasons and priciples.
Ron Paul's positions are so diametrically opposed to the democrats that lumping him in with them, and the nutball big "L" libertarians, is a huge mistake.

He was. He's now a Republican. He is what is called in the hallowed halls of FR a small "l" libertarian. Meaning he is not one of the full blown arrogant anarchist nutballs that is screaming for the repeal of drug, prostitution, and child pornography laws.

He was. He's now a Republican. Really?
Here's a google search on "Ron Paul" and "Libertarian"
Here he is, speaking to a Libertarian National Convention post 9/11:
In a speech titled Learning the Lessons of 9-11, the lone libertarian legislator in the U.S. House spoke about his crusade against statism in a post-September 11 America.
Here he is, listed as one of the "Libertarian Celebrities & VIPs"
(You can skip the glowing tribute to Paul at the Ernst Zundel site. I doubt if Paul asked for attention from a Holocaust denier).
Here's Ron Paul saying:
RON PAUL: People frequently ask me, "Would you ever join the Libertarian Party again?" I say: "Well, I've paid my life membership dues. I haven't resigned and they haven't kicked me out, so I still must be a member!" (audience applauds)
and
We're in a big struggle, and the libertarian message is crucial. I believe we can win if we concentrate on the morality of this issue. I don't know what the future holds for the Libertarian Party, but your success cannot be measured by numbers alone. In Washington, they know you exist. They know there is a libertarian message - and I'm not going to let them forget about it!
Do you need more proof?

More proof of what? He's a member of the Libertarian Party? Yeah, I already knew that. Does he practice all of their policies? No. You call him a flaming liberal and intimate that he is aligned with liberal socialists. If I want any more "proof", it is "proof" to back up your claims.

First you say this:

and now you say this:
More proof of what? He's a member of the Libertarian Party? Yeah, I already knew that.
Which is it?

Okay, he is an elected Republican. He is also a member of the LP. His practices and policies are small "l" libertarian instead of the arrogant, anarchist big "L". He is in favor of smaller, more accountable government that follows the letter of the law (Constitution).
When I said "he was" I was implying that he is not a part of the main philosophy and ideas of the LP and is more of a small "l" Republican which makes up quite a bit of the FR mainstream conservatives. That make it more clear?

That make it more clear? He differs with the LP party on abortion and immigration. He does agree with them on their isolationist polices and the war on drugs. (This is not an exclusive list.) And there are many factions in the Libertarian Party. They'd probably be more successful if they could agree on something.
He was their Presidential candidate in 1988, and he still speaks to their conventions. He hasn't resigned from the Libertarian Party, so something must be keeping him there.

First, you may want to read my statement in context:

My congressman, Mark Green (R-WI, ACU rating of 88), Paul Ryan (R-WI, ACU rating of 96) and James Sensenbrenner (R-WI, ACU rating of 92) have higher ACU ratings that Ron Paul. His ACU rating is 76. His ranking is comparable to Tom Petri (R-WI, ACU rating of 77). Paul's ACU rating is the same as Christopher Shays (R-CT).

First, you may want to read my statement in context:
I did and I read your other statements where you try to hang a liberal tag on Rep. Paul. You lumped him in with Ted Kennedy and now Christopher Shays.
I am familiar enough with the ACU ratings to know that they are done by votes in Congress. Instead how about we get some real meat from what Rep. Paul has sponsored and cosponsered:
H.CON.RES.4 : Expressing the sense of the Congress that the United States should not rejoin the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Sponsor: Rep Paul, Ron [TX-14] (introduced 1/7/2003)

Sponsor: Rep Paul, Ron [TX-14] (introduced 1/7/2003) Cosponsors: 9
H.R.423 : To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the 1993 increase in taxes on Social Security benefits. Sponsor: Rep Paul, Ron [TX-14] (introduced 1/28/2003) Cosponsors: 4
H.R.488 : To limit the issuance of student and diversity immigrant visas to aliens who are nationals of Saudi Arabia, countries that support terrorism, or countries not cooperating fully with United States antiterrorism efforts. Sponsor: Rep Paul, Ron [TX-14] (introduced 1/29/2003) Cosponsors: 10
H.R.701 : To restore to the original owners certain lands that the Federal Government took for military purposes in 1940. Sponsor: Rep Paul, Ron [TX-14] (introduced 2/11/2003) Cosponsors: (none)
