Just re-read the article and saw this...
"My parents died way before he was ever born, and he said, 'Mommy, your mommy and daddy,'" said Shirley Reynolds, Ryan's mother. "I said, 'Yeah, what about them?' He said, 'Is that them in the picture on the wall?' And I said 'Yes.'And he said, 'Mom, I just wanted you to know, they're both OK.' He said, 'They're just as pretty as they are in that picture, except they have wings and they're waiting for me.'"

The other night my dad came to see me, in a dream, and he had a little boy with him, who looked like my oldest son Gary, when he was little, golden haired, following my dad around. It was in a house I had just toured, for sale in Tulsa. I dreamed I was touring that house and my dad and that little boy of about 3 or 4 was with me. They were happy and just walking around enjoying the day.

I thought later, that little boy must have been the baby I lost in a miscarriage in about 1978. I always thought it was a girl, but also had a feeling I would have had a boy first. I didn't ask the sex after I lost the baby. I was about 3 or 4 mo. pg. I think Daddy was letting me know that my baby I lost is with him and they are waiting for me in Heaven! We will be reunited with all the babies we lost.

Then I wondered about aborted babies... they will be in Heaven, too.

Just switched to that one today. Tull provides my emotional center. 30 years later Locomotive Breath is still a great song that kicks major butt in concert.

Totally believe it. About two hours before my father died, he kept asking my sister if she saw " that bright light ". Later he suddenly looked towards the end of the bed and said " Mama ! How ARE you ?? ". I wish I had been there, I would have asked him who it was he saw, his mother or my mom's mother. My son says he hears ( in his head ) my dad talking to him a lot, senses his presence, and sees things go by out of the corner of his eye. Not believing in angels or that we go on after death is not believing in the power of God, IMO.

Not to question whether or not the boy saw an angel or angels, but of this much we can be sure: the family is Biblically ignorant with regard to angels. In the article, they said, "My parents died way before he was ever born, and he said, 'Mommy, your mommy and daddy,'" said Shirley Reynolds, Ryan's mother.

The Bible makes it very clear that angels are a separate class of created beings. In Heaven, those who are there with Christ will have a new resurrection body like unto His glorius body.

atheist \a-the-ist\ n : one who denies the existence of God atheism \-i-zem\ n atheistic \a-the-is-tik\ adj
(C) 1995 Zane Publishing, Inc. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary (C) 1994 by Merriam-Webster, Incorporated

agnostic \ag-nas-tik\ adj [Gk agnostos unknown, unknowable, fr. a- un- + gnostos known] : of or relating to the belief that the existence of any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and prob. unknowable agnostic n agnosticism \-nas-te-si-zem\ n
(C) 1995 Zane Publishing, Inc. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary (C) 1994 by Merriam-Webster, Incorporated

It's difficult to respect someone who asserts that they are an atheist, that they reasonably deny that which they have no way to prove does or does not exist, in light of the more reasonable definition of agnostic, one who acknowledges that for them the proof is unknown and possibly unknowable. That's why I characterize your assertion as sad. Not because I am a Christian, for that is also a belief based on faith, a belief characterized by hope ... as opposed to arrogant assertion that one knows that which cannot be proven to be known and one has chsoen to assert despite human limitations.

The movie is a fictional story.

What is so wonderful about good fiction is that it asks us questions about our concept of reality.

Confusing the two is extremely dangerous. If you don't know the difference, you are truely lost.

Or worse, if you think you can control it by force of will, you are dangerous. Think Malignant Narcissism

If you are not willing to face the idea that everything you are living is wrong, you cannot defend it aginst the concept that you could be wrong.

The question remains:

If everything you experienced, considered fact, believed to be true were shown to you to be without a doubt to be a lie, would you want to know the truth?

Scripture indicates that there are angels and that one of there roles is to protect (guard) humans. However, we are given no indication that those in Heaven are usurping this angelic role. As a matter of fact, for those that are now in Heaven, the only activity we can be scripturally certain of is that they continually worship God.

"It's difficult to respect someone who asserts that they are an atheist, that they reasonably deny that which they have no way to prove does or does not exist, "

While one can prove that something exists, it is logically impossible to prove that something does not exist. Your dictionary definition of athiest is fine, as far as it goes, but it is not my definition of the word. I have defined it for you quite clearly. I do not believe that any deities or supernatural entities exist. That is atheism, to me. Whether you accept my definition or not is of little importance to me. It is simply my definition.

I have seen no proof of the existence of any deities or supernatural entities. I have seen many claims of their existence, from many different religions. Yet none can produce their deity. From that, I conclude that such deities and supernatural entities simply do not exist, but are created by the imagination of mankind.

You may disagree with my conclusion. You may wish to argue about it. That's fine. But, it is my conclusion, just as surely as you have formed some other conclusion.

I have my atheism in my tagline so that nobody will be deceived in any way. It's difficult to mistake me for a believer in any religion, since I state that I am not, right in my tagline.

Believe whatever you will...that's your choice. Allow me to believe whatever I will or to disbelieve. That's a matter of the law.

Further, your dictionary definition is incomplete. It is one of the dictionary definitions of atheism and atheists. There is a second, as expressed in the "Websters Encycopedic Unabridged Dictionary of The English Language." That definition reads:

Atheist n. a person who denies _or_ disbelieves ith existece of a supreme being or beings.

As I have said, I _disbelieve_ in the existence of such a being or any other supernatural entities. I _am_ an atheist. It is not a belief. It is a _disbelief_.

My father came back to visit me twice after he died.

FWIW, my family has many stories about things like that. Even I have one. My mom smoked, and whenever she got dressed up she had this "getting dressed up" smell -- a mixture of perfume, hair spray, lipstick, and cigarettes, I guess -- that was unique to her.

At her funeral I was sitting (rather miserably) in the pew, when I smelled the "getting dressed up" smell. Later on I felt her presence a number of times. It was very comforting.

I also "met" my great uncle, for whom she was named, and who died in WWI (a family tragedy that still resonates -- he was my grandfather's identical twin.) That same uncle, BTW, taught my aunt to whistle in 1924, when she was four. He died in 1918, and the pain was such that my grandparents never mentioned him.

Apparitions of my grandparents have both been seen at our much-loved summer cabin.

There's a whole lot we don't know. Given the number of people who've had such experiences, to simply deny things like this out of hand suggests that there's something else driving the militant desire to "debunk" stories like this.

About 30 years ago, I should have been killed in a freak auto accident. A strange sequence of events altered the outcome, and I survived with only a few bruises. On this one occasion, I didn't fasten my seat belt, something I had always done before that day, and after. If it had been on, I would have had a heavy wood post smash me in the face. I am convinced that some unseen force or entity somehow made me not buckle the belt on that one occasion, and saved me from almost certain death. A guardian angel? I have no doubt.

"Tell 'em to kiss your ash......."

Thanks, but I'll pass. I enjoy a polite discussion of such ideas, but rarely tell anyone to do something like that. I don't care what people believe...beliefs are personal matters. I do care when people threaten others for their beliefs. Christianity is bad about that, forever threatening eternal damnation if you don't agree with them. That attitude I don't care for much at all. It's unseemly.

There was a comedian in Omaha several months ago who was traveling with Sam Kinison the night he was killed. Stated that he held Sam on his lap and he had talked about it was his time to go, like he was having a conversation with someone that wasn't there. The comedian stated that he later realized he was talking to someone on the "other side" about it being his time to go.

The interview was done on the Todd & Tyler show on Z-92 or www.z92.com. They often have comedians that appear at the Funny Bone club on their show.
