I dont understand why these people who have been together longer than I have been married (17 years) cannot share the same benefits (and legal ties) that I share with my partner. Thanks VL for helping society try to make a mockery of the sacred union of man and woman. Thanks for trying to define marriage as everything until it means nothing. If you're not from Vermont, you should be.

You cannot make a distinction between the legal state of marriage and the religious state. I think the biggest mistake the gay community has made is to call it "marraige." By definition, marraige is between a man, a woman and God. You will not get an argument from me on that.
What I am for is the legal definition of a contractual obligation between two people. Why shouldnt they be able to enter into the same state--from a legal perspective--to transfer property, AND be legally bound to each other until the contract is dissolved.
You guys will never win the legal fight, but you will never lose the moral/religous fight. So my point is why fight over this.

(I am not from Vermont. I lived there for four years and that was enough.)
