Exactly what is the gay 'agenda' and 'lifestyle'?
Amarillo Globe News ^ | July 15, 2003 | Greg Sagan

Posted on 07/15/2003 10:41:28 AM PDT by gcruse

I'm with David Horsley. If there is such a thing as a "gay agenda" I must be one of its supporters by default. I've never been "recruited" for this cause; never received any political material describing the agenda, the forces opposed to it, or how it will prevail in the law and the institutions of America; and I've never attended any meetings suggesting my heterosexual predilection is a target for gay subversion. But there are people out there with whom I disagree who tell me that gays of both genders are promoting this "agenda," and the demand that gays be given equal treatment under the law is apparently the first step on a path that will soon have me dating Bruce Willis.

I am not persuaded.

There's a lot of nonsense surrounding the phenomenon of homosexuality.

There's the idea that homosexuals "recruit" heterosexuals. This is absurd because you can't change someone else's sexual orientation. If you don't believe that, try changing your own. If you can't do it to yourself, what chance does anyone else have to do it to you? My sexual orientation is not up for grabs, and I defy anyone to sweet-talk me into sleeping with men.

There's the idea that gays corrupt the young. Some may, but as science repeatedly points out, most episodes of sexual abuse involving adults and children are perpetrated by heterosexuals. I suspect someday we will see a movement to outlaw heterosexuality because of all the perversions it spawns, but for now I would rather rest my weight on the idea that acts of sexual perversion are separate and distinct from sexual orientation. That way we can sweep up offenders of both persuasions.

And there's the idea that gays "choose" the "gay lifestyle" - whatever that is. As I've pointed out before on this page, if anyone can "choose" to be gay, so can you. And if you can choose to be gay, your right of choice should be protected as long as you meet the new criteria - consenting adults, privacy of the bedroom.

But the only element of "lifestyle" common to all gays is that they prefer sex with people of their own gender. Beyond that you can find gays who are committed and gays who sleep around, just like us. You can find gays who drink wine and gays who drink beer, just like us. You can find gays who are Republicans and gays who are Democrats, just like us.

The only "agenda" gays hold that I'm aware of is to correct mistreatment under the law, and since the gays doing this are American citizens who work, pay taxes and vote, there is no reason to deny them this much of what they want. Gays should be able to form lifelong committed relationships, participate as full partners in medical decisions of their mates, pass on property to survivors as easily as the rest of us can.

And, yes, they should be able to raise children as a family unit.

This is the idea that troubles some people to distraction - what about the children? Won't kids who grow up in a homosexual-parent family turn out gay? Well, do all children who grow up in heterosexual-parent families turn out straight? Of course not. I had three children by my first wife. Two are heterosexual, one is gay. So that argument doesn't hold water.

What is important to children in any family is the quality of the relationship between the parents and between parents and children. Two heterosexual parents can make the lives of their children a living hell. Two homosexual parents can make the lives of their children an example of trust, commitment, integrity, and love.

We all ought to seek and savor the second kind of relationship, not reject one of them out of hand because we don't like the pairing.

But giving gays some minimal protection under the law is an essential first step to understanding their relationships, because nothing distorts research like criminalizing the behavior to be studied.

Besides, when gays are denied fundamental protection under the law, we are stating to the whole world that justice in America depends on your choice of sleeping partners. This is an insupportable premise for public policy.

For those who are rabidly opposed to homosexuality, I say by all means stay heterosexual. Just don't expect to see your zeal elevated to legal prohibition. Gays can be good Americans, too, and discriminating against good Americans with the law has yet to prove itself a viable long-term strategy.

There is quite a difference between "judgement" and "discernment".

Right. Romans 1 deals with discernment -- which is what I was trying to say when I said it offers guidance to a church.

Then let God take care of it. He created the gays, they're his problem. They're his laws, let him enforce them. /sarcasm

Just like God created incest, beastiality and killing sprees? These are human sins against nature and God condemns such actions but they are a choice. Being human, many take part in these sins because thats what humans do..

Ignoring Gods orders is foolish and dangerous. Blaming God for these sins is also foolish and dangerous.

By the way, with all my other glaring faults, I am an atheist,
so your Elmer Gantry outbursts fall on sterile ground. As for being called Sparky, that's truly bizarre. As a radioman in the Navy, I was often called that. For it to be used as some sort of insult doesn't work.

I agree, I just have a semantic difference. I refer to a pattern of homosexual behavior as "homosexuality", while I don't use a particular word for sexual urges or inclinations... It doesn't particularly bother me if it is innate -- for exactly the reason you state re: pedophiles.

No more dangerous than stepping on sidewalk cracks, in my experience,
and my mother's back is just fine, thanks.  ;)

Ignorance to the nth degree!!

The "agenda" involves "normalization" of a deviant lifestyle by "desensitizing" straight people to it's existence.

What better place to start than in our schools? We've all read the stories of 5 year olds being indoctrinated to "gayness" through clever story books involving two mommies and two daddies, etc. not to mention "how to" in sex ed for higher grades.

Don't forget "marriage" and the saturation in the media with gay heroes in movies and television shows. Now cartoon characters are even "coming out" to further desensitize our children.

How many heteros here introduce yourselves and say, "Hi, my name is Tom and I'm a heterosexual!" What is so damned important to this particular group of people that makes it necessary to identify themselves by their sexual orientation??

It's all part of the agenda of "wearing us down".

I, for one, am sick of this 2% of the population that's walking all over our society. It's time to stop the madness and NOT allow anymore moral decline in this country. If Canada or the Scandanavian countries want to embrace gayness as normal, it doesn't mean the United States has to follow suit.

If homosexuals don't find our policies to their liking, let them "relocate" to more gay-friendly countries and leave us the hell alone!

"41 avg lifespan without AIDS"

'Care to provide a source for this preposterous assertion?'

These stats are nothing new. There are countless studies that parrot these figures. Studies of homosexual publications listing obituaries, medical reporting of AIDS deaths, and many more studies support these figures. Included in these "preposterous" assertions are the highly disproportionate numbers of deaths due to male-homosexually related (1) suicide, (2) alcoholism, (3) STDs, (4) homicides, (5) AIDS, and (6) use of narcotics. It's a highly reckless way of life that cannot be criticized by PC standards. If AIDS doesn't get them, many other things do. And organizations such as Exodus International that have been very successful in rehabbing homosexuals gets dragged thru the mud by the "orientation obsessed" crowd.

The Homosexual Movement in Massachusetts Schools

On March 25, 2000 the Massachusetts Departments of Education and Health teamed up with the national gay and lesbian group GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) and conducted a conference for school children and educators.  The conference was held under the guise of tolerance and safe schools.  However, as the Parent's Rights Coalition discovered, this conference was about teaching children the unsafe mechanics of homosexuality.  Following the conference, organizers denied claims of misconduct made by the Parent's Rights Coalition.  Organizers were forced to concede the truth after the Parent's Rights Coalition made public an audio recording from the conference, which substantiated their claims.  A free copy of the Parent's Rights Coalition audio tape can be obtained from the Massachusetts News web page.  Alternatively, if your computer is audio capable, then you may listen to the following 10 audio clips, in order, to hear the entire contents of the free audio tape.

A word of caution to parents:  These audio clips contain graphic sexual language and are not appropriate for children.  Note that these clips were created for the RealPlayer program.  If after clicking on the audio clips below you determine that the RealPlayer program in not on your system, you may be able to obtain a free copy of RealPlayer Basic under the Real home page located here.

So you're saying you can be talked out of your sexual orientation?

I see what you're up to here, Gary. Don't you even dare try to talk me out of my sexual orientation!! ;-)

Yes, they do recruit - but who they recruit is teenagers - primarily.

They have their "agenda" programs at school which causes the children to start to doubt who and what they are. I've seen that tactic totall destroy a very bright young girl. She was a friend's daughter.

The girl was so confused she tried to commit suicide several times. The family moved away and I've lost contact, but my friend was convinced it was rampant in California schools and she wanted to get her child out of here.

" cheap shot"

Asking if someone is gay is a cheap shot? Why? Is something wrong with being gay?

Ignoring Gods orders is foolish and dangerous. Blaming God for these sins is also foolish and dangerous.

So your belief in God is based on fear, I take it. Rationality goes out the window when emotions take over. And that's why so many posters are unable to live and let live with homosexuality.
