July 15, 2003 -- On the day it named a new top editor, The New York Times launched yet another investigation of the performance of one of its reporters.

This time the reporter under the microscope is Lynette Holloway, a media writer whose recent story on the music business was the subject of a 2,100 word correction in The Times yesterday.

Holloway referred calls to the Times and said that she has not been fired or suspended or otherwise forced out as a result of the correction.

Yet.

50,000 people go to a baseball game, but the game was rained out. A refund is then due. The team is about to mail refunds when the Congressional Democrats stopps them and decrees that they send out refund amounts based on the Democrat National Committee's interpretation of fairness. After all,if the refunds are made based on the price each person paid for the tickets, most of the money would go to the wealthiest ticket holders. That would be unconscionable!

I seriously think the NYT should have a policy that, if they have to run a correction of more than X number of words, then you will never write for them again. A 2,100 word correction is a bad thing. The fact that this woman might actually keep her job tells me all I need to know about how important credibility is at the NYT.

. . . were the product of fabrication, plagairism and dateline fraud along with garden variety factual errors.

"He wanted to increase coverage of hip-hop music."

This is the line that jumped out at me. I'm sure the hip-hop section is the first thing loyal readers on the Upper West side turn to in their NYT.

Some hiphop interests are involved in a lawsuit against Gottlieb. Was Holloway's misreporting in his case not just sloppy, but corrupt?

How can they stick around? 'Course this is the NYT we're talking about. Wasn't Lelyveld supposed to be outta there anyway? I thought that the liberal paper of record had a mandatory retirement policy for folks who hit 65. Lelyveld's older than that I think.

Limbaugh's Law (and I'm paraphrasing): Liberal screw-ups get rewarded for failure. The worse they do, the higher they go. Talk about a Peter Principle.

It's the Liberal Buddy System at work. They never let a fellow liberal go down. Been a lot of such resurrection cases.

Watch for Winona Ryder - petty thief - being resurected to mega-star status. She'll probably get an Academy Award as did convicted child rapist, Roman Polanski. Little turd Polanski triumphed thanks to the Liberal Buddy System.

It's worse than that, though. I think Limbaugh's right. The left actually rewards failure. Sheesh. No wonder they're such a mess.

In light of the egg that is still running off of the face of the NYT because of the Blair fiasco, I wonder how aggressively the Times will pursue this latest situation.

Methinks their heart just won't be in it.

I absolutely adore that song. It makes me cry when I look at my son.
