Is this normal parental behavior?

(KSDK) An abduction alert has been issued by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Three young children, ages 5, 3 and one are the victims.
Police say the children's mother had pulled into the parking lot of a nursing home to visit her grandmother when her ex-boyfriend got out of an SUV and approached her van.
Marshall Cliffty Yoakum of the Dixon Police stated, "she said that he was always very dangerous so she thought she would get away. She just pulled in gear and drove through the yards at the Manor and when she was pulling away she heard him shooting. She didn't know that he had hit the van, she just knew she could hear shots and she wasn't able to keep control of her van and she hit a building. And when she hit the building she jumped out and ran to the nearest apartment to call 911 and he approached the van and took the three children out and left."
A bullet went through a seat in the van but no one was injured.
The suspect is identified as Eugene Kimbler of Alabama. Investigators say he abducted his three children, Madison Kimbler, 5, Mackenzie Kimbler, 3, and Corbin Kimbler, 1.
Police consider Eugene Kimbler armed and dangerous. He was last seen in the tan or gold-colored SUV with the children and an adult female. The SUV has Alabama license plates.
It most certainly is not. If true, it is absolutely a cause of action against the father.
I do not mean to imply that I don't care about these children. What I am more concerned about is the complete disintegration of the "Amber Alert" system. I think it is a great idea and it has saved lives. It used to work.
Now, however, since every child custody dispute is eligible for the alert-- its meaningfulness and usefulness has been completely diluted. We will now see dozens of these alerts a month. Now they can be safely ignored along with all the pictures on milk cartons.
Yes... sometimes parents are bad. The other side of that coin is that now every parent knows that all they have to do is allege that the non-custodial parent "showed a gun" or "threatened" them in some way-- and bang-- there goes the alert. Custody disputes are among the ugliest things that two people ever do to each other and the kids. There seems to be no boundary on what people are willing to accuse the "other" parent of in order to get courts to rule in their favor.
I think it is better for the overall viability of the system to exclude-- as a matter of policy-- any alleged abductions by family members. Generally, kids in that situation are not at risk in the same way as they are when the abduction is done by a stanger.
Police issue Amber Alert for three children taken by father at gunpoint

DIXON, Mo. (AP) -- An Alabama man confronted his former girlfriend and their three young children at gunpoint Monday and abducted the children, authorities said.
Police say the children's mother, Kassy Hadley, of Ensley, Ala., had pulled into a parking lot Monday when her former boyfriend and the children's father confronted her and started firing his gun. Abducted were Mackenzie Kimbler, 3; Madison Kimbler, 5; and Corbin Kimbler, 1.
The suspect was identified as Edgil Eugene Kimbler, 53, of Ensley, Ala., Yoakum said.
Yoakum said it appeared no one was injured when the shots were fired.
Hadley, 26, had left Kimbler a week ago in Alabama and had checked into a Waynesville crisis center, Yoakum said.
Yoakum said Kimbler may be headed back to Alabama, possibly to the Jasper area where he owns a shoe repair business.
"I am assuming that he would working his way back to his own territory," Yoakum said.
I wonder if he is heading back to Alabama. If he is, he's going to run into a welcoming party.
I just hope and pray the children are safe and continue to stay that way.
She probably didn't have any--as long as she stayed with him.
