Hi Diver,
I don't think I get this one: "Don't ever be the first, don't ever be the last, and don't ever volunteer to do anything."
-U. S Navy Swabbie
Don't ever volunteer to do anything? Am I not reading this correctly?

All of us with 'critters' know that critters think everything is for them :)
I think you can include 'children' with the critters listing too.

Sorry Aqua that on your first day you're being forced to endure an initiation. You'd think the other hostesses would be a little more supportive. Also, watch out for Free, looks like she's about to take a bite out of your leg!
Never seen such a disfunctional group. LOL!
To: Aquamarine
Did I miss something? Is this your first post to the Finest thread?
Don't forget, I'm still naive here.

We all have a strengths and interests. If we all had the same interests, how boring would the Finest Thread be :) How true! That's the great thing about the Finest everyone brings something different here. It's a good way to learn about new things.

Did I miss something? Is this your first post to the Finest thread? No, this is my first day as an official (bonified) hostess. :)

Good morning, Miss Aqua...a perfect thread you've dished up us for this Military Monday...thank you...) I just love the Teacups and Hostesses.
Good morning to all our Hostesses...you must be rather proud of your newest, fledgling Sistah...)
Howdy to all my FRiends and neighbors.
America is under assault from without and within...seems to me the Dim jihad is a wind as fierce as the Islamokazi storm...the Captain's chair must be a lonely and hard spot, somedays...good thing Dubya's tough as barbed wire and gun-powder.
God bless America, our Military, our President...and, all y'all.

They just raid other birds nests and destroy eggs for now reason. That is exactly what happened with our nest of little House Finches that we had on our patio a few years ago. One day I heard a lot of screeching and carrying on outside and saw a scrub jay sitting on the nest pecking at the baby birds until they fell out of the nest. Three were already dead on the ground. I chased him away, but the jay eventually killed all but one of the babies. I could see no reason for this at all. I was so upset, I felt responsible for these little birds, but I couldn't protect them.
The interesting thing was, there were several Finches nearby pitching a fit over what was happening. One of them surely was the mother bird, but the others were behaving like a family and were just as alarmed over the babies being attacked.
I guess it is natures way of keeping the bird populations balanced out, the jays are just doing what jays do. But, "survival of the fittest" is hard to watch. I think most people's first instinct is to try to interfere and protect the innocent weak ones. (I know, it is this concept in government that the liberals have taken to extreme.)

GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYBODY! (Morning to some) Aqua, You did a great job!
I was lurking on Friday's thread this morning. Looks like I'm gonna be off the internet on my pc for a while. Cause when my BIL changed my phone he did something to the line so I cannot get into the internet at home until I can get him to look at what the problem is.
Lori: I bookmarked Friday's thread on Vermont. A beautiful state! I'm dissappointed that I missed that thread.
(I need a new computer!)
I guess I won't be on FR as much as I used to be, so, I'll get in touch whenever I can.
May God Bless You all real good! :O)

Wow. I didn't know the scrub jays did that too. I knew the starlings did. What a shame.
You are right, it is one of nature's way to keep the balance; however, the balance is off.
The jays and starlings don't have as many predators. So they keep overpopulating and thinning out too much of the song bird population.
