Bookmarking this great thread! Thanks for posting it.

Nice website, carlo, but make for young eyes only. Talk about your tiny little print! :-)

Does anyone remember the night a newbie got mad at John Robinson and said something like, "Who the f_ _ _ do you think you are posting that kind of stuff."

Kind of like the scene in the movie, The Last Detail where Jack Nicholson's character whips out his 45, lurches over the bar and exults:

"I am the f*cking shore patrol, so give this kid a drink, or I'll blow your f*cking brains out!"

(Copied this classic line from a Google search).

I'd really like it if someone would post that thread were the whole "I'm going to shower" running joke started. It has been a mystery to me for quite some time.
Here is the place to START:

FREEPers: SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE SHOWER JOKE TO ME!
Free Republic ^
Posted on 05/26/2002 10:38 AM PDT by Recovering_Democrat

I think I remember the first time I heard the "shower" joke, but it's been lost in the shuffle!

SOME FREEPERs who were there when it started,

PLEASE EXPLAIN THE 'TIME TO GET IN THE SHOWER' JOKE for your less-informed fellow FREEPers...

-- snip --

To: Recovering_Democrat

A freeper named Brytani(sp?) posted that her husband might be near an accident and she was nervous then said she was going to take a shower and see how it was after she got back.

I probably screwed it up but there's the jist.

I believe she now finds the shower comments pretty funny and sometimes even beats the shower jokesters to the punch...I don't remember exactly how it started, but I do know she would never actually put her shower first over her husband's welfare...maybe she can enlighten us as to what her original post actually WAS (although that might take some of the hilarity out of it, huh?)

By now, the shower humor is pure Freeper lore and goes with the territory...

Yeah, i think that was pretty much it. As i remember it she was preparing to take a shower when she heard a report that there was a disturbance on some flight, so she posted on here asking if anyone else had heard anything and then she mentioned that her husband was scheduled to be flying just then but that she had to get back to her shower. Naturally after that all the wags came on and gave her a hard time and it's become a running joke ever since.

There was another thread where someone thought that they were being sent anthrax by terrorists and took a picture of her bikini and car to prove that the package was hers!!!!

Also claimed that the bio-hazzard was in vacuum packed pouches, but here on earth we call them Zip Lock Bags.

I never laughed so hard in my life.

Post #4 on this thread Air Force imagery confirms Columbia wing damaged is the original "This is hugh." Incidentally, leadpenny was the first one to mention loss of UHF comm as Columbia re-entered the atmosphere - so he's famous to outsiders as well as to us.

I would appreciate a link to the original shower post.

I don't know if anybody answered your question yet, but here's a few links. The original drawings are on slate.com at What was Al Gore Thinking?.

One FR thread is at: What was al thinking? but the drawings are missing.

Yes, but as they never shave their armpits and rarely bathe - one is perhaps "overpowered" before one can be appreciative

On the other hand, there are those of us who are quite fresh, Mr. Debonnaire. No wonder you looked elsewhere, as no french woman would have you!

That's OK, being British to the core, France is to me like kryptonite is to Superman. If I had married a Frenchwoman I'd probably have died from the escargot and the overwhelming support for Bill Clinton - at least.

Now now, you're just upset that les Rosbifs beat the living hell out of the other fans back in France '98. You can get over such things, the first step lies in admitting one is French, and resolving to change it. ;)

I remember two that had me bent over with laughter. One was the Bill Clinton ice cream flavors. That was fun. There was also one about Barney Frank and someone mentioned hamsters. I had to get over the shock of learning what that was about first, but then I laughed so hard at some of the posts that I couldn't breathe. I could not find either on a search.

There have been too many wonderful threads to choose favorites, but the most memorable for me were the 9-11 threads and the election threads. Of course, the daily and periodic threads are outstanding also (USO Canteen, Guild, Daily Dose, FR's Finest, etc.)
