Can Anyone Put Zing Into Liberal Radio?

In The Claremont Review of Books, Christopher Flannery addresses what he says is the liberals' "increasingly desperate effort to discover or create a Rush Limbaugh of the Left."
Liberal radio is not much fun, he writes in summarizing the reaction gleaned from friends, observers and critics. "Compared to El Rushbo ever buoyant, larger than life, overflowing with conservative joie de vivre the lefty pretenders appeared, to friend and foe alike, anemic, wan, somehow depressing," he says. "In a word, grim."
The problem might be America's success, he says. "Since at the same time America shows disturbing signs of being the most broadly prosperous, free, tolerant and democratic nation in history, a loyal lefty would naturally begin to grow a little bitter, somewhat testy, even shrill on a bad day," he says. "And the more free, just, prosperous, tolerant and democratic America proves itself to be, the worse the day and the more desperate must be one's message."
"Because either one's life and reputation have been staked on ideas that have departed from reality, or the only people who understand the world are you and the `so-called' terrorists," he adds.

Grim? I'll say. The problem the left has is that, simply put, it's WRONG about EVERYTHING.

The zing in right wing radio is listening to the radio hosts expose the left for their hypocrisy and lies. The truth will out bump.

Putting aside the fact that NO ONE wants to hear three hours of liberal whining and guilt trips, Rush Limbaugh did not happen overnight, nor was he a planned out thing.

If any of you have Sirius Satellite Radio, you should check out their "Sirius Left" channel. (Don't worry, there's a "Sirius Right" channel too.) Every time I flip the station on, everyone's always depressed, angry, morose, despondent, or some combination of the four ... and of course usually lying. The only guy I've come across on there so far that's any good is a host who's actually a hardcore moderate, and specifically positions his show smack dab in the middle so he can snipe at what he doesn't like about the left and right at the same time.

Plus liberalism smacks of elitism. It doesn't entertain too well on the radio.

Can Anyone Put Zing Into Liberal Radio? Only one person I can think of could do this - the yet-to-be-born advertising genius that first successfully markets dog feces to the general public as baby food.

Take Bill Press, for instance ...
He was on talk radio in LA for a while and nothing but liberal biased nastiness poured forth from him.
It is that characteristic feature amongst liberals that does them in -- biased nastiness doesn't play well outside their classrooms and commune settings.

Putting aside the fact that NO ONE wants to hear three hours of liberal whining and guilt trips, Rush Limbaugh did not happen overnight, nor was he a planned out thing.Excellent point, Paul. For some time now, the left has been preoccupied with trying to manufacture a liberal equivalent of Rush Limbaugh. As you've stated, Rush's approach to talk radio was not a planned out thing. A group of conservatives did not huddle together in a room somewhere and "create" Rush Limbaugh. As Rush himself has stated many times, he started out with a Program Director who was willing to take a chance, and let Rush offer his commentary on the issues of the day. No one knew if this format would succeed, or fall flat. Rush did his thing his way, and the rest, as they say, is history. The libs think it's just a matter of throwing enough money at the project in order for their concept of a liberal talk radio network to succeed. It's just not going to happen.

There is no such thing as a "loyal leftie". Anymore than there is such a thing as a patriotic "progressive.

Bill Press's main job for the rats has been as a political advisor for the left in California as one of the heads of their party committee. I read his new book that came out about a month ago and he openly admits to lying and pronounces it okay to do when needed, in the third chapter. How, with this type of hype, he can be used for legitimate party radio is the big question. He's a self-professed liar.

Some of the nine dwarves might make for fun radio.
From 12-3 "The Shizzy with Sharpton"
From 3 to 6 "Howard Deans Angry Rants"
From 6 to 9 "Parlez vu France with John Kerry"
On the weekends "Haircare with John Edwards"
Late nights "Dennis Kuchinich and Kooky Callers"
Another weekend show "Show me the Money with Carol Mostly Fraud"

The libs think it's just a matter of throwing enough money at the project in order for their concept of a liberal talk radio network to succeed.Like welfare, education, healthcare, etc., etc. That's their approach to everything especially when it's not their money!

Have Sirius as well; cannot abide the left-wing radio of course; and while much to choose from, mostly my station is on Fox News. . .

This does sum up where the "mainstream" media and 'Rats seem to be headed (though we shouldn't question their patriotism - hahahaha).

They left is wrong about everything, but the main setback is that no one in their right mind can come up with an agenda that is anything other than gloom and doom. They don't have anything intelligent to add that produces solutions. They are part of the problem, all the time! You can't sell that to anyone with greater than a room temperature I.Q. About the only type of sponsors they could come up with, consistant with their message, would be products geared to quick feel good products like Tumms, Alka Seltzer, or Ex Lax, for relief. Not exactly commercials that will drive someone to the polls while they are peaking out from under the covers.
