But how can you on the one hand say something is true, but on the other hand say it probably shouldn't have been in the State of The Union address? I think the administration would've been better off if they defended the claim - especially since Bush prefaced the claim by saying it came from British intelligence reports, and because Blair & Straw are standing by their intel assesment. It just seems odd to say 'this is true, but shouldn't have been in the President's speech'. Everything they've done so far has played right into the DemocRATS hands, and has helped to keep this non-story a float for another week or so.

Have you lost your senses? This is the kind of slime we had under Caligula, not George W. Bush.

W and his team will prevail.

"As others have pointed out, the statement was 100% accurate. We had sources that have since been discredited (and were very questionable at the time the SOTU address was being written) that tended to corroborate the Niger incident. There has also been other info about other possible sources (Congo and another north African country I can't remember at the moment). The Brits might also have other (better?) information from Niger of from one of these other countries. To this day, the Brits stand by their estimate, though they don't want to reveal their sources for the intelligence."

The line was included in the speech to gain public support for the invasion. The President said it as if it were the truth, not a theory which may or may not be verified. It is nothing less than Clintonesque to say that the statement was technically correct when the assertion contained within it was false. There is a lot of support to be lost with maneuvers like this one, and it should be stopped immediately. It portrays the people who believed the State of the Union Address as fools for believing the statement as it was given.

Condi is on with Tony Snow, talking extremely fast.

Wow, Fox News Sunday is just now coming on my cable system. Not only is she speaking fast, but her voice is wavering, too. She is nervous. Tony Snow is doing his best to speak slowly, make her feel at ease.

...and after a couple of minutes she has calmed down somewhat.

Now Condi explaining the difference between the Cincinnati speech and the SOTU speech. The former referenced a specific story that was supported by a single source, the SOTU referenced a myriad of sources, including British intelligence (obviously, since that was what President Bush said) about several stories.

I repeat--Condi speaking in measured tones and not "fast" at all, so I am not sure why some said otherwise.

Rumsfeld made it clear.....since we cannot verify British intelligence (they don't share their sources) we ought not to have used their intelligence. IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEIR INTELLIGENCE WAS FAULTY.

Does anyone blame the Brits for not sharing their sources with our CIA......

CNN showed a clip of Rumsfeld almost going Clintonesque on us with "Bush said that the BRITISH said..." and therefore he's okay.

What's "Clintonesque" about that?

Bush clearly refered to the Niger info coming from the British in the State of the Union.
To refer to the British NOW is not "Clintonesque", it's stating the facts as they were presented from the beginning.

We simply must make Fox at least understand the true facts on this story. Even they have been falling down and talking about "mistakes" and "erroneous intelligence".

Who among the press does not understand the following:

1) the British still stand by the uranium intelligence information.

2) MI5 still stands by the uranium intelligence information.

3) Tenet and others have called it a mistake to leave it in the State of the Union Address because the CIA could not verify the intel personally.

4) The president did not say "Saddam bought uranium". He said "British intelligence tellls us Iraq has TRIED TO PURCHASE uranium".

5) Everyone in the UN knew that Iraq had a WMD program and was trying to reinvent their nuclear program. That is what the 17 resolutions pertained to - the WMD programs in Iraq and how Iraq had violated those resolutions since 1991. The arguing among nations was what to do about those violations.

Tony Snow just said that the first thing the new Iraqi Council did yesterday was to remove all the Saddam holidays from the calendar and make April 9 - statue-toppling day - their first new national holiday

that is wonderful! I wonder if other media will report it....What am I thinking?!

MTP and Fox just started here and I'm going between. Whoever said Tim was raking Rumsfeld over the coals has zero perception.

Yes, CMClay's observation that Rumsfeld was getting raked over the coals by Russert was indeed WRONG! Nothing could have been further from the truth.

Rumsfeld is so precise in his language that if anyone misquotes him or tries to put the wrong words in his mouht, he is very quick to correct them, making the interviewer look, well, unprofessional shall we say.

Wow..that is great.

Meanwhile the libs in Europe and America continue to argue against the war that toppled Saddam, and smear those who accomplished this magnificant achievement.
Liberals are so pathetic.

It was a short interview but Clark tried to raise the bar in Iraq. He said it won't be enough if we find WMD. Now he feels people will only have confidence in the president if we find documents that show Iraq was going to attack the US and the threat was imminent! Clark should come with an "idiot alert" sign over his head.

That knocked Steffy off his morningtalkingpointsmemo so badly that he couldn't even do a decent interview with W. Clark in the following segment and ended the Clark interview in short order. LOL

I LOVE that show as well... Especially the dream episodes.

The funniest episode, IMO, of the Dick Van Dyke show is when Laura inadvertantly states on national TV that Rob's boss, Alan Brady(star of the The Alan Brady Show), is bald.

She goes to apologize and Alan Brady basically says to her what is he going to do with all those toupees, and Laura says, "surely there has to be some needy bald people".
