SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - As the state's budget stalemate enters its third week, some Democrats are accusing Republican lawmakers of holding up an agreement to hurt Gov. Gray Davis in a recall election campaign.
California already has the worst credit rating of any state, faces a record $38.2 billion budget shortfall and is operating for the first time completely on borrowed money. Officials say the cash will run out by mid-August, and the state can't borrow any more until a budget is passed.

Gee these Democrats are an astute lot.

Thest budget crisis ordeals have become commonplace each year for the last ten years or so. The old budget expires on July 1st and each year we go through a process that sees bickering and nothing signed into law until september or so.
One would think this process could be started in April, but I guess that would be asking too much from our brain-trusts.

She pointed out that when Newt Gingrich and the Republicans shut down the federal government in the mid-1990s, it was the Democrats and President Bill Clinton who got the benefit of a voter backlash. As all Freepers know, it was Clinton who shut down the government. But the press will not let a little fact like that stand in the way of getting in some digs against the Pubs. The Pubs can count on the press to try to bury them on this issue.

"I think Republicans are blocking as a tactic in overall recall strategy," said Harvey Englander, a veteran Democratic consultant based in Los Angeles. "It's designed to show the governor as powerless and ineffective and unable to govern."Now that is a good one, I guess a 38 Billion Dollar deficit isn't enough!

Well after we replace the Dimwit Davis maybe the rest of the morons in Sacramento will get the idea that we are not exactly happy with the way things are being done in the Capitol. duhhhhhhhh...ya think?

Only socialists would name their party the Nonpartisan League. Only in the world of doublespeak could a political party be thought of as anything other than partisan!

The "deficit" has been at 38.2% for 2 months. Is the press sandbagging on this one too...

Well Tube, the "projected budget deficit" is what they're talking about. As of this date there is no budget yet. So it remains the same. I like Tom McClintock's proposal of cutting ten percent off the top and holding that for eighteen months until the budget is balanced. No new taxes and no new fees. There is plenty of revenue. They have just been spending more than the revenues have been coming in...

Just remember, this is the same press that never mentioned the looming hole prior to the Nov election and then the next day said it was 12 Billion, and then 15 billion, then18 billion, then 22 billion, than 28 billion and on and on...

CA: California Democrats accuse Republicans of using budget crisis to help recall effortSo what do they suggest?? "Since this Marxist and his socialist wacko buddies have ruined the budget of the state government, we'd better keep him in office!" Oh, wait a minute -- that actually IS the normal Democratic reaction to Democratic gubernatorial incompetence.
To: NormsRevenge
The left wingers are blinded by their zeal to tax and spend and tax and spend.
They will never admit that their insanity re passing new bills to spend more money than the state's tax revenues is what caused this problem.
That tax and spend mentality has apparently earned California the worst bond rating of any state in the Union.
Yet they want to tax and spend more and blame the results on the Republicans who have said enough is enough.
