US Involvement Continues

US Secretary of State Colin Powell, speaking with CNN, called on Israel to release additional Arab prisoners from Israeli jails. Powell said he was "confident" regarding the continued implementation of the Road Map, as both sides have been executing the plan. Israel has dismantled outposts and released prisoners, he noted. As for the Palestinian Authority, US State Department officials announced they would scrupulously track the $20 million being given to the Palestinian Authority by the Bush administration. Officials added that they are confident the new PA administration will distribute the money in the proper fashion.

In a further effort to push the Road Map forward, the White House has extended invitations to both Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and to PA leader Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen). The visits are expected to take place towards the end of the month.

In a related matter, Prime Minister Sharon and Abu Mazen are scheduled to meet next week. The meeting between the two planned for this week was canceled by Abu Mazen, under pressure from Fatah leaders.

Yup. The PA will be fair. I am sure the money will be distributed in the proper fashion. $5M to Fatah, $5M to Hamas, $5M to Islamic Jihad, and $5M to Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. Did I miss anyone? If I did, the PA will have to wait for its next money wire.

Yea, I think $1 million to all of the groups and $19 million to Arafat.

When Clinton was asked what he thought of foreign affairs he replied, "I don't know, I never had one." (As usual, he lied)

Will Mr. Powell take responsibility for each and every murder committed by the released prisoners?

Will Mr. Powell take responsibility for each and every murder and atrocity committed by the money he has authorized?

Or is the toll and karma just to be passed on the USA?

Scrupulously means it will be thrown at them in government legalese.

It certainly is difficult to reconcile a "conservative" administration providing financing to these ruthless murderers. We give them money and we force the release of terrorists too? What the heck kind of a "war on terror" are we fighting anyhow?

None of this is making sense to me. It is not as if we are now concerned about an Arab lead O.P.E.C. embargo.

What the hell is it? There has to be a reason that makes sense. As usual the sorry excuse for media is not explaining anything. The journalists of today are so caught up in their hatred of republicans and Bush that we are left gazing incredulously at the current developments?

I am definitely at a loss. I can only hope that the stratergery is something truly profound, and that we are just sucking them all in. That would be an extremely optimistic position to hold in my opinion.
