WASHINGTON, July 10, 2003

CIA officials warned members of the President’s National Security Council Staff the intelligence was not good enough to make the flat statement Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa.

President Bush, with South African President Thabo Mbeki at his side, predicted that proof of Saddam's weapons programs would yet be found.  (Photo: AP)

Now the headline reads, Bush Knew Iraq Info was Dubious. CBS is back tracking. But if you read the story, it was not even dubious information.

The CIA according to the CBS story agreed with the inclusion of the information in the State of the Union Speech after initially debating the point with White House staff.

CBS was so hot to nail bush, they first said he "knew it was false." Then they read their own story and back tracked to a point that is still false. They still don't get it right with the caption to the story. What scum they are trying to pass themselves off as journalist.

Story link is here

You only have to read into it a few paragraphs to see.

Here is the copy from the story.

(CBS) Senior administration officials tell CBS News the President’s mistaken claim that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa was included in his State of the Union address -- despite objections from the CIA.

Traveling with the president in Africa, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice on Friday said that the CIA had cleared the reference to the attempted uranium purchase.

Before the speech was delivered, the portions dealing with Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction were checked with the CIA for accuracy, reports CBS News National Security Correspondent David Martin.

CIA officials warned members of the President’s National Security Council staff the intelligence was not good enough to make the flat statement Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa.

The White House officials responded that a paper issued by the British government contained the unequivocal assertion: “Iraq has ... sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.” As long as the statement was attributed to British Intelligence, the White House officials argued, it would be factually accurate. The CIA officials dropped their objections and that’s how it was delivered.

{The CIA officials dropped their objections. So what is the problem? How does CBS conclude that the information was first false, and now dubious?)

CBS is getting it's hand caught in the cookie jar -- just like the others have.

I wouldn't be surprised if this monumental screw-up develops legs; it'll take us screaming from the rooftops, but it can happen.

CBS does LIE and I am sick of these media clymers twisting this story into something it is not.

I see the other tack is that Condi is being "defensive" and Bush is "pointing the finger" at the CIA.

BTW, Fox just showed an ad that will begin airing Monday sponsored by Moveon.org and another group. They have a new site called Misleader.com. Their whole ad is MISLEADING as they say that the only reason given for going to war was this nuclear program story. That is LIE and how it can be allowed to air is beyond me.

Nuclear Weapons Program: Look under the rose bush....

It looks like the Dems are getting to "specifics" and away from "there was no nuclear program".

It's one of those "Okay, they didn't make the buy so there was no nuclear program".

Let's be real.....SADDAM was the biggest WPD in Iraq. The tools are just his little helpers.

If anyhting the story helps prove GWB's innocence. What he said in the State of the Union address, “The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa,” Mr. Bush said." is true!!

Someone, pleeze...tell me where the President was lying?? I hope the demoRATS hang themselves with this!
