THE OFFICIALS said analysts were working to determine the meaning of the 90-page document, dated January 2003, which listed prisoners of war held by the government of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. The document includes Speichers name, officials said. It could not immediately be determined whether it included any dates or locations where Speicher might have been held, but in April, U.S. investigators found Speichers initials carved into the wall of a cell in the Hakmiyah prison in Baghdad. Saddams government insisted publicly that Speicher was killed when his F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet was shot down over Iraq on Jan. 17, 1991.

Indeed. Nobody should be left behind and the whole of US power should always be applied to get them back.

I was hoping for a miracle. Not that the war needed legitimizing, it didn't and doesn't, but I agree with the idea that this would have been enough reason to take Saddam and his evil followers out. I'd like to see Saddam, the sons and Usama each go a round or two with hungry lions. That would be a fitting final chapter for those creeps.

What I find amazing is that many on this board REFER to another JUSTIFIABLE reason to have gone to war with IRAQ. Either by insinuation of or by direct evidence of some sort or another. The ONLY reason we EVER needed is simple: Iraq did NOT abide by the ARTICLES of SURRENDER in GW1 ......hence a resumption of HOSTILITIES was JUSTIFIED, even MANDATED!! Case closed!! All other "REASONS" ie Scott Spicher, mass murder, torture and WMD is just icing on an already baked cake!

Isn't it amazing how the dems ranted for years that the first President Bush should have gone all the way to Baghdad. Should have finished the job, blah blah blah.
Suddenly they're all demanding to know why we went to Baghdad!

What really chaffs me is that when he was shot down, our people knew that his body was not found in the desert.

All other "REASONS" ie Scott SpicherFailure to release (or account for) all POWs was a violation of the Articles of Surrender of GW1, so the Speicher case was a justification for war by your standards. Though, as you note, this was not a pre-emptive war but a resumption of one.

I'm not sure whether Speicher is alive or not, but I have a fear that Bill Nelson may be leading us on in order to get his face out there. If you know what I mean.

It could break soon, or crumble into nothing. We've seen these types of reports in the past, even with Saddam in power. I just pray that if he is alive, we do everything we can to find him.
