This soldier Maj. Georgy Trofimov died today doing his job. He was vaporized by a bomb. He died protecting his homeland. That was his job. Protect his homeland. There are many of us who will go through life never having to directly need people like this hero who died yesterday. These people are in every place in the world and they quietly protect their countrymen whenever they can. It is times like these I like to take pause and salute these people who are all around me. I would like to request that when you pray or toast a drink(I do both) to include these people as silently as they protect you and I.

Major Trofimov was killed trying to safely detonate a bomb outside a restaurant placed there by a Chechen suicide bomber who wanted to kill many, many innocent people. The bomb may have been detonated by remote control by one of her confederates watching him as he approached it (real nice folks, so thoughtful that in addition to many sticks of TNT, they added ball bearings for effect). There's a photo of Major Trofimov in tonite's English-language Moscow Times (www.themoscowtimes.com). He looked like the type of man every man would like to be. God rest his soul!

Thanks for your replies but I was hoping for a more worldly veiw away from all of the political crap we have to deal with. People from different countries who take a stand for what is right have more in common with each other than they do with many of thier own neighbors. That is who I would like to consider.. Just food for thought. Have a good weekend.

How anyone can ever attempt to equate the actions of terrorists and legitimate military is beyond me. Case in point: a Russian officer who bravely attempts to save the innocent versus a cowardly, faceless Islamokaze who targets indiscriminately.
Godspeed, Major Trofimov.

Exactly, terrorists are cowards.
Look at that picture. I could have played football with that ugly mug! There was a guy in my company that looked just like him. I'm sick of losing good people to these worthless cowards.
