July 9, 2003 -- Talk-show host Michael Savage claims he didn't know that he was on the air when he told a caller to his cable TV show that he was a "sodomite" who should "get AIDS and die." Savage, who was fired by MSNBC Monday morning, apologized for the incident - and bashed the news network - on his national radio show that night.

His given name is Michael Wiener. And yes, he did grow up in New York City.

"MSNBC should be ashamed of themselves for catering to a mistake like this"
That's what MSNBC did when it hired Savage, not when it fired him

Savage walked right into a well laid trap because he thinks he is invincable. This time, his enemies were smarter than he was.

Dear Mr. Savage:

When the sign says, "On The Air" you are on the air.

Sincerely,

Catspaw

Blasting MSNBC is fine, but Savage should be a man about it and admit the truth -- he knew he was on the air.

Bye bye Savage.

You're just a loud mouthed schmuck. How about being a conservative and turn the other side around with well reasoned thought processes?

Does anybody know what Savage's ratings were on MSNBC? I ask this because this might be the real reason Savage was fired. Maybe his ratings were in the tank and MSNBC was looking for a reason to dump his show (without having to admit they made a mistake in hiring him).

I would venture to guess that had Savage's ratings been high, MSNBC would probably not have fired him so quickly.

Anyway, Savage was in an awful time slot. Who the heck would watch a talk show at 4PM on Saturday afternoon?

Zackly. The production director for KSFO, Mike Amatore (who is a bona fide, solid gold evil genius when it comes to promos) included that in one of their latest promos (without mentioning Savage by name): "It's hard to backpedal with your foot in your mouth."

or at the very least simply take responsibility for his words...guess the "I'm the victim here" mentality is a bit more widespread than anyone might have imagined.

Yep, Savage drones on and on about how the "victim mentality" has permeated American society, and he's the biggest whiner (Weiner) of them all.
