Police search for motive in Mississippi plant shooting

Meridian, Mississippi-AP -- Mississippi police are interviewing workers at a Lockheed Martin plant, trying to find out why a co-worker went on a deadly shooting rampage yesterday.

Authorities say Doug Williams had attended an ethics and sensitivity meeting at the plant in Meridian before the shooting. Local Sheriff Billy Sollie says something in that session may have caused him to "snap."

Officials say Williams opened fire throughout the plant, killing five people before turning the gun on himself.

Sollie tells N-B-C's "Today" show that three injured workers have been released from the hospital -- another remains in critical condition.

Despite allegations from co-workers that Williams was racist, Sollie says it doesn't appear Williams was targeting black workers.

A company I used to work for initiated mandatory sessions a few years back. The first thing we heard were slurs against bigots such as Limbaugh.

One has to wonder if these sessions just incite the already-inflamed nutballs into action.

As Rev. Lovejoy might say, you can't learn sensitivity in an hour. Such things take a least a weekend.

Obviously, this wouldn't in the least way justify what he did. But I can say that I was pretty ticked off by the sensitivity training I got at my job.

The whole thing is based on a behavioral science model adopted from Marxist psychologists.

Obviously we need legislation to ban sensitivity training.

The 'thought police' incite rage when some are put in a position that they MUST follow PC rules.

The diversity stuff has got to stop. It is making a mockery out of what it is supposed to promote. My kid just went through the company mandatory yearly diversity class and it was an experience in Hegelian tactics. All the participants had to stand one by one and relate their experiences with racism, discrimination, and gender bias caused by, you guessed it: Whites, men, women didn't matter. What could my son say? That he came from a hard scrabble family? Being poor when you are young doesn't count apparently.

I don't excuse this man. Wrong is wrong. But I can see why he went off the deep end.

My dad said the same thing about training he had to go to in the Navy. The trainer went on about how his opportunities were limited as a black child, and then Dad pointed out that he'd experienced the same limitations (poor schools, limited job opportunities, lack of "services," etc.) simply because he was from a poor family in a rural community.

Dad told the guy (in effect) "You've got a bee up your b*tt over being black, but in reality, the 'problem' was that you were poor. And in spite of all your 'deprivations,' here you are, well off and successful, and so am I. So get over it and let us get back to work!"

The US should really adopt the Brit/Australian English practice of period after abbrevitations (where the last letter is omitted) such as Ms. for Mississippi, but not after contractions (where the original final letter is retained) such as Ms for female person. It reduces confusion and saves ink.

I never had a problem with homosexuals until my first week of college when we were forced into little groups with a bunch of gay guys who proceeded to tell us how bad we were for being a part of an oppressive society. The gay guys the kissed each other. My family had always taught me to be respectful of everyone, not to pick on or hate people, etc. Of course, I left the sensitivity training thinking that homosexuals are bunch of sick freaks.

My employer has a mandatory "diversity" class. The last class is sometime this month. I sent an e-mail to my boss, formally refusing to take it. We shall see what transpires.

Will perform engineering calculations for food.
