Iranian Alert -- DAY 30 -- LIVE THREAD PING LIST [Riots erupt]
Live Thread Ping List | 7.9.2003 | DoctorZin

Posted on 07/09/2003 12:05:43 AM PDT by DoctorZIn

Today is July 9th. The day Iranians have been waiting for. The next 24-72 hours may be the most important in Iran's history.

It is noon there, at the time of this post, and already we are hearing of people in the streets. The regime's security forces are out in force. This is very encouraging as most of the demonstrations thus far have been at night to take advantage of the cover of dark.

We have heard of riots in the Pars region of the city of Tehran. We have yet to hear of strikes. We are receiving phone calls from Iran but they are few. The regime is cutting off the calls to the United States as soon as they find them.

We are continuing to hear of the regime’s jamming of the broadcasts in much of Iran and Europe. But apparently the signals do get through from time to time.

The people of Iran have chosen July 4th because four years ago, the regime brutally attacked peaceful student demonstrators while in their dorms. The result was the loss of life and liberty of hundreds of students, many of which are still unaccounted for.

Iran is a country ready for a regime change. If you follow this thread you will witness, I believe, the transformation of a country. This daily thread provides a central place where those interested in the events in Iran can find the best news and commentary.

Please continue to post your news stories and comments to this thread.

Thanks for all the help.

Do Not give real time information

It doesn't really matter much. Anyone can see the tehran time anyway, from when the post is put up.

Plenty of other stuff you need to worry about, but that's not one of them.

...Powell's latest blatherings about "the us not getting into this family fight" is being touted around the world as the us official position, even though it is the polar opposite of what Bush has been saying....

You may not know this but as a result of the outcry about his remarks the department of state made the following comments:

State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters that the kinds of changes called for by Iranians demonstrating against their government "would be good for Iran and good for Iran's place in the world."

Speaking at the July 7 State Department press briefing in Washington, Boucher called on the Iranian authorities to listen to the demonstrators.

"[T]he Iranian people are calling for much more democracy and for real democracy and open democracy," he said. "So that remains the area where we express our support...."

>>>> I predict that Powell will have blood on his hands in this matter. If Bush doesn't fire his scummy a$$, then so will he.

A right-wing democrat I know (yes, they exist) said Bush Jr. has the same weakness his father did in war. I hope it isn't true. Why we didn't roll east and west simultaneously after Baghdad fell is beyond my comprehension.

President Bush, where are you? Do a few snipers in Iraq shake your faith in freedom's fire? Take note: your reelection may depend more on stoking freedom's flame than anything else. Keep your eyes on liberty and ignore the left. They will fail you, but the right will sweep you to victory again and again. Don't let Iran down, and don't let the safety and freedom of Americans down in the process.

You may not know this but as a result

No, I hadn't seen that. Very good. Now, if the State Department would just remove their Islamic recruitment site, it would be even better.

>>>> We know that...it's Powell.

Yes, but he is President Bush's apointee and answers to him. The Road Map, stopping on the Syrian border, failing to answer North Korea's threat, and now the letting down the Iranian students: President Bush is losing approval because he is appearing to be indecisive and weak. I don't believe it's true, but we need completion on these fronts.

Israelis, Iranians, and east Asians are depending on Bush to be strong. Where is he on Iran? How can we let these brave students riot alone?

"UK Foreign Minister Jack Straw, Shame on You"

July 10, 2003
Iran va Jahan

Thousands of Iranian exiles in London turned up outside the Iranian embassy in London today to commemorate the Iranian student uprising four years ago.

The demo which was scheduled from 12:00 - 14:00 went on until 5:00 pm as more and more joined the protest.

Despite the warm weather there was a great sense of togetherness among various groups.

Slogans in support of 8000 imprisoned students and the "Ey Iran" (Our Iran) anthem filled the air.

Young Iranians continued to circle around in their cars and on their motor bikes waving the Iranian flag with the Sun and Lion insignia as the rest cheered them on. Some of the protesters were arrested for blocking the traffic and sitting out in the middle of the road, but the continuous cries of let them go, let them go by others ensured that they were quickly released by the British police.

As the passions ran higher and higher, anti-riot police had to be brought in, for the fear of the takeover of the Islamic Republic embassy by the crowd who were getting stronger and more passionate. By now the crowd were spilling into the street and the police had to close another lane to the traffic in order to contain the demonstrators behind the barricades.

Jack Straw, SHAME ON You,
Temple-Morris SHAME ON you
Nicholson SHAME ON YOU
Robin Cook SHAME ON you,
Colin Powell SHAME ON You,
Down with Terrorist Supporters,

Is how the crowds vented some of their anger on the sections of the British and US government officials whom they deemed as supporters of the Islamic Regime.

When one Channel 4 camera crew turned up, the crowd then turned their anger on other absent channels and shouted,

BBC, ITV Where are you?, shame on you!

Today was a demonstration of Iranian unity, all the political groups were present. Red paint had also been splashed over the front door of the Islamic Republic embassy, as a symbolic gesture of bloodthirsty regime.

Many teenagers and young couples painted their faces in green-white-red paint and waved pro-democracy banners.

Participants agreed that the size of today's demonstrations was one of the largest and best organized in years.

The demos in support of the Iranian pro-democracy movement happened in more than 62 locations outside Iran.

Yes, what better way to defend America than supporting this freedom initiative with arms, intelligence, and military advisers?

I hope so. It will give me much grief if we let this movement fail, and then Americans die because of an Iranian nuke that floats into one of our vulnerable harbors. The world's freedom is our best safety.

Why we didn't roll east and west simultaneously after Baghdad fell is beyond my comprehension.

Perhaps it has something to do with showing respect for what the Iranian people have asked. They want to do this themselves, and who are we to tell them they can't?
