Tough fight for whoever wants to repeal stauatory rape laws. Stautatory rape laws enjoy one of the largest majorities of approval and support. Age of consent (AOC) has been steadily RISING for the past 100 years in all states. The recent brouhaha over child sexual abuse by Catholic priests is only the tip of the iceberg of public sentiment on this issue.

When the US was founded it was not illegal for an adult to have sex with a 12 year old (or even as young as 9 in some of the original states). Since that time, AOC has been rising steadily. It is now 18 in many states.

Better do some more looking up what the laws were, in Ct, it was punishable by death to not worship the God of the Bible too, in the early 1600's. So, I have serious doubts sex with someone under the age of puberty was legal.

The Europenas have been liberalising their child protection laws for years. This SCOTUS looks to Europe for guidance on matters of mores when ruling against states in America that are guaranteed, supposedly, the tenth amendment.

Doesn't seem like much of a stretch to me.

As evidence I offer Roe and Doe. Roe originally allowed abortion in the first trimester. Doe expanded that to killing them on the way out.

And now we have learned men such as Singer at Princeton who wants to extend that to two years after exiting the womb and Watson who has decided that the Nazi's were right after all vis a vis eugenics.
